F.A.C.E.I.S (in English P.A.C.S.I.S) is a project developed in Portugal in an association named Scouts. The main objectives are: during approximately four years each scout develops six areas that helps themselves to grow up as a person.
We have chosen this theme because we think that it is important for us to discuss the youth´s physical, affective, character areas as well as spiritual, intellectual and social issues.
Nowadays young people don't give so much attention to themselves and a lot of them have problems that are related to the low development in areas like obesity, suicide, low self-esteem, isolated life etc.

Social
Over the age of fourteen there is an increase of the body size, of the forms and physical abilities, while the uncoordinated tendency disappears.
All this stability encourages the development of new capabilities impulses and potentiality that need to be identified, experimented and controlled.
Main principal developments:- Performance- Self-knowledge- Well-being
Physical Area
Over the age of fourteen the need to create and renew close friendships and to show they have grown up is now prevalent.
This is a time of lastlong friendships. The choice of friends will always meet what is considered as the right standards of acting, thinking and talking.
They don´t search for different but similar tastes and modes. Adherence to new new values marks the choice of friends.
The best friend is the close confidant. Moreover there is a greater consideration
for others´feelings and there is also a need to have an emotional bond to another person.
This is the period of attraction for the opposite sex and first loves (it appears earlier in girls). Of course all this comes together with extended periods of emotional instability and with sudden changes in mood. There is a tendency for periods of isolation too.
Main principal developments:-Relationship and Sensitivity-Emotional Balance-Self-esteem
Affective Area
From 14/17 years of age we deal with real crises of identity, when the adolescent turns to self discovery.
This process which gives an increase of the activities carried out on his own is not always peaceful, because conflicts may arise and also problems with self-esteem too.
Efforts are directed mainly to the demand for new models of behaviour. Identification models are often not his parents but other adults or peers, which produces a consequent change in value system.
Finally, the adolescent tends to build big dreams and aspirations and develop feelings of invulnerability.
Often at this level, the teenager intends to reform the society in which he lives and to deny the hypotheses to be victims of attitudes and risk situations.
Main principal developments:-Autonomy- Responsibility- Consistency
Character Area
From the age of 14, symbology, interest in other experiences of faith and ethical problems and defense of values become landmarks of the spiritual experiences of adolescents.
At this stage, there is more interest in different ideologies and religions than in their own.
Besides this, one begins to question the religious practices of childhood. This does not, however, invalidate the interest in ethical and ideological problems.
In fact, the adolescents are often radical in the defense of values and even sometimes demonstrate a great capacity for altruism.
They also have the notion that it is necessary to establish contracts and follow the same rules so that there is understanding in the group.
Main principal developments:-Discovery-Deepening-Service
Spiritual Area
From the age of 14 the ability of reasoning power improves.
Adolescents can criticize the established, ask questions about the future and about the society.
This implies that the teenager already shows willingness to reflect on issues.
Finally the teenager reveals the ability to be alert, but is still subject to "daydream". They also begin to define interests and vocations for the future.
Main principal developments:-Search the knowledge- Troubleshooting- Creativity and Expression
Intellectual Area
Between 14 and 17 years the adolescents have a great capacity to adapt to new social groups and easily establish relationships with others provided that they are similar.
In the following years, the teenager sees the relationship as a process of mutual sharing.
This is also a period of social restructuring, dominated by rebellion against established authority.
They show behaviours of impatience and aggression towards others and may also prove to be critical and frank in expressing their opinion.
They often feel that their experiences are unique and no one can understand them (selfishness).
Main principal developments:-Active Citizens -Solidarity and tolerance-Interaction and cooperation
