Isn‟t it amazing that the children here (with the exception of Tom) described love involving an aspect of giving without an expectation of receiving something in return?

1 John 3:16 says: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us”.

Thank you Jesus for loving us! We didn‟t deserve it and He didn‟t do it for a return - He laid down His life for us

because He loved us. We have no greater definition of what love is than Jesus‟ own example on the cross.

But what will we do with that love? John continues: “…and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:16b-18)

This Valentine‟s weekend do something that defines love - give without expectation of receiving. Gifts, card and flowers are wonderful but why not give of yourself and lay down your time to help someone in need.

What is love? Poets have pondered, writers have penned and millions throughout history have drawn their own conclusions, correctly or otherwise, successfully or not. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of children:

'Love is when you go to McDonalds and you give your brother most of your chips without making him give you any of his.' (Rebecca, 6)

'Love is when Mummy gives Daddy the biggest piece of chicken.' (Ruth, 5)

'Love is when my mummy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure it tastes nice.' (Danny, 7)

INSPIRE: Joyful Generosity “WE WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE GRACE THAT GOD HAS GIVEN THE MACEDONIAN CHURCHES. OUT OF THE MOST SEVERE TRIAL, THEIR OVERFLOWING JOY AND THEIR EXTREME POVERTY WELLED UP IN RICH GENEROSITY… THEY GAVE AS MUCH AS THEY WERE ABLE, AND EVEN BEYOND THEIR ABILITY...THEY PLEADED WITH US FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF SHARING IN THIS SERVICE TO THE SAINTS.”

(2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-4)

I love the way Paul commended the believers in Macedonia. They were a real example of abundant life, even though at this particular time they were in extreme financial poverty.

Their joy in the Holy Spirit ruled over their poverty; their poverty did not control their joy. They were not poor Christians; they were rich in grace, rich in faith, and rich in joy. They just didn't have much money. These believers were so full of the life of the Spirit that they could not help but be rich in generosity to their fellow brothers and sisters who were in need. They didn't adopt a poverty mentality that only receives but never gives. They were not more concerned about their own lack than the needs of others. They pleaded with the apostle that he would give them the privilege and joy of blessing their fellow saints. So out of their extreme poverty they sowed generously to the Lord.

They gave out of a large measure (Luke 6:38), even though the actual amount might have been small in comparison with other churches (it's not the amount, it's the measure). And because we always reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7), they would have reaped back from the Lord. These were the richest of believers.

ALL YOU NEED

IS LOVE This Sunday... This Sunday (February 13th) All Nations Church will be blessing the local

streets of Heath during the second half of the meeting. We want to show the people in our Community about the amazing, unconditional love of God and

the great hope we have in Jesus.

In light of this, please can you come prepared with warm coats and comfortable shoes. Those with young

children and those who find walking difficult will be very welcome to stay at the building for a time of fellowship.

Important information for Parents

Babies and children from the Crèche and the 2-4s class should be picked up as usual at 10.45am. We would like parents of the 5-7s and 8-11s Kids Club to decide if they would like to take their children with them

or leave them to stay in their usual classes which they enjoy.

Please note, however, that if you do intend to leave your children while you are away from the building, you will be required to sign a consent form at the same time that you drop them off at 10am.

We want to bless the community in a really simple way and it will take no more than fifteen minutes of our time. After which you’re free to go home or return to the building to enjoy tea, coffee and cakes for time to fellowship with each other. This won’t effect the student bus pick up times to Cardiff or Pontypridd.
