Our Mission
St. Michael Parish in Exeter, NH, is a Roman Catholic community inviting
all people to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and His Church.
“Thomas said to him, ‘Master, we do
not know where you are going; how
can we know the way?’ “ John: 14

In one of his recent talks about living the
Faith in the COVID19 crises, Bishop Robert
Barron drew attention to the words of Blaise
Pascal, a brilliant 17
th Century
mathematician and
scientist, often credited as the inventor of the
first mechanical calculator, who once wrote
that “all men’s miseries derive from not being
able to sit in a quiet room alone.” Though
gifted with an exceptionally active mind and a
remarkable ingenuity for tackling practical
problems, Pascal came to realize that not all
questions can be addressed through application
of mental force, and that these more difficult
questions tend to surface in solitude and
silence. Moreover, when we wonder about the
ultimate path and purpose of our lives, about
where we might fit in to any sort of
providential plan for the Universe, we come up
against the disquieting fact that we can’t
simply answer such foundational questions
ourselves. Whatever the Universe is, we are
not the author of it, and only the one who holds
the script can really address inquiries about
routes and roles.
Prior to Pascal, those whose lives were
defined by following the Lord ran up against
the same sort of perplexity; and the Apostle
Thomas perhaps is the spokesmen for all of us
when he presses the issue about where we
ought to be going. Like Thomas, we need to
have a certain boldness to grapple with the
question in the first place, the type of boldness
to face the disquieting quiet with questions for
Jesus. And like Thomas, may we have ears to
hear in our hearts that truth which is the same
yesterday, today, and forever: the pathway we
seek is a person, who is himself the script for
our story of salvation.

difficult time. See below for our online giving option. .
What Should I Do Since I Can’t Go To Mass?
Our diocese has stopped public Masses in order to promote
the common good and to contribute to ending the COVID19
spread. This decision from our bishop means that we are
dispensed from the Sunday obligation to actually be at Mass.
But it doesn’t mean we cannot keep the Sabbath holy. How do
we go about this? Here are some suggestions!
 Avoid unnecessary work

Make an Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy
Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to
receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my
heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite
myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated
from You. Amen.
