Although we rely on the media for information, to keep in touh and even for

entertainment, an inreasingly more violent world an be linked to television, video

games, the internet and musi!

"t has been estimated that over one thousand studies on the e#ets of

television and movie violene have been done in the last forty years $ite soure%!

&ust in the last deade the Amerian Medial Assoiation, the Amerian Aademy of

Child and Adolesent 'syhiatry, the Amerian Aademy of 'ediatris, and the

National "nstitute of Mental health have separately studied and reviewed many of

these studies that have been done! (ah of these reviews done by these

organi)ations have ome to the same onlusion, that is, television violene leads

to real*world violene! +erdes, 200-.

Aording to a large*sale survey, fty*seven perent of Amerian television

programs between 3 am and 11 pm ontain violent senes4 +5erk, 2006.! Children

are espeially vulnerable to these violent senes as they have not yet learned to

di#erentiate between real life and make believe! 7ften times$,% hildren are not

apable to follow a story line that eventually brings the villain to ustie, rather they

only understand that the person who shot the other person got what he wanted!

Cartoons are espeially dangerous to hildren as there is an e9tremely high

volume of violent ats! Cartoons are able to show people getting punhed, kiked,

falling o# li#s or even shot and beause they are artoons they are not hurt! /his

adds a very distorted view of reality for hildren who are in the proess of growing

and learning!

to e9amine the amount of violene present in television programs that were

intentionally aimed to hildren 12 years of age and under! /he ase study relied

diretly targeted at these age groups were atually more violent than other
