PREFACE

Being the author someone who tries not to duplicate the Being the author someone who tries not to duplicate the world’s (unknown) order, but to offer an order of the world to the reader, as an experiment on the world itself, the main techniques he can use are the catalogue, the juxtaposition, and the list. And grounding his authority on the project of gathering together scattered images, incomplete sentences and discontinuous meanings, he eventually discovers the intimately ethical core of what he is doing. However comintimately ethical core of what he is doing. However com-pelling these words can sound, I guess it’s from this very point of view that a book like the one starting here can be understood.What is this book? Above all, it is a kind of graphical and verbal Wunderkammer, where uncommon aesthetic objects find their common place and destiny. Like every Wun-derkammer, it can exert two kinds of charm. On one hand, it can fascinate the readers with the richness and the strangeness of its collection, with the glamorous appeal of its centripetal force, that makes so strange and different “things” come togethe“things” come together. On the other hand, it ravishes the readers’ looks and attention along the lines of the centrifu-gal drives it’s holding, every single figure and sentence being able to capture their imagination, and lead it to a dif-ferent world, suggesting different parameters of realityThus, every item of its collection appears as a trace of something that happened (an act of the author, a move of the world), in a process of continuous reaction to the events that form our life, to the thoughts, feelings and perceptions we are continuously generating and experiencing. At the same time, every picture or sentence appears as a track, leading to one insight or the other, to this or that general form of the world its reality implies.form of the world its reality implies.At the heart of this display, as already said, there is the rational/irrational power of juxtaposition, whose sequence establishes one straight, rigorous order while generating streams of uncontrolled meanings and feelings. And in turn, at the heart of juxtaposition, there’s a void. It is the void be-tween one thing and the other, where two secrets lie: the author’s one, in which he hides his choice of bringing to-gether these things and not others, that is the real ground on which he built his authorship and his work; the readers’ one, in which they discover what they did not know to know, and find places, memories and words that live in remote and forgotten areas of their self.So, that’s what this book is: a work on a lack, a collabora-tion in sight of a near future in which there will be some-thing, instead of having nothing.
