write a number 2 on the bubble sheet.

• Look at number 6. • Where it says, “Underline,” you’re going to write the WORD that best supports your

answer on the bubble sheet.

• Look at number 10. • Where it says “Check 2,” write down “A, B” or “C, D” in the box on the bubble sheet.

• Look at number 14. • Where it says, “Check all that apply,” write down all possible answer choices

“A,B,C,D” in the box on the bubble sheet.

Agenda and Objective

Agenda

• Do Now • Share out• The Hunger Games – book vs

THG movie • What are the similarities and

differences? How do these changes affect how we interact with the text?

• TKAM chapters 14-16 text • TKAM movie equivalent • Exit

Objective

• Students will analyze the representation of the different scenes from TKAM on page and on screen, evaluating how additions and deletions affect their experience with the text.

As we read...

• In the left hand column, create a bulleted list of the events of the chapter.

• Then, we’ll watch the scene and you’ll do a compare/contrast of the same scene.

• Finally, you’ll consider how the changes made affect your interaction with the text.

The Hunger Games Scene 1: pages 18-20, where everyone gathers for “The Reaping” and Katniss volunteers for Prim

How is the scene presented in the book? How is the scene presented on screen? • The mayor tells everyone about the history

of the games• Katniss explains in detail the reasons for

the games, giving her opinion of how she feels: “The Capitol requires us to treat the Hunger Games as a festivity”

• Haymitch is very drunk Prim’s name is called

• There is no mayor at all; Effie shows a video detailing the history of the games

• Because we’re not in Katniss’ head, we don’t know how she feels about this.

• We don’t see Haymitch at all

How do the differences and similarities affect your experience? The fact that the movie has the ability to SHOW what the history of the Hunger Games is like makes an impact because we can actually SEE it. However, we don’t have any real idea of how Katniss feels, which makes less of an impact because we don’t understand how much the games really bother her.
