Did you know?Lord has many definitions and does not always refer
to someone who is godly or supernatural like inreligions like Christianity. The definition used to refer
to the Buddha is "a man of noble rank or high office; anobleman". Hence many Buddhists refer to the
Buddha as 'Lord Buddha'.
WHAT 'S IN TH IS PPT?In this powerpoint, 10 verses from Yamakavagga: Pairs will be
presented. These verses are from the Dhammpada (a collection ofverses of the Lord Buddha). The verses are translated from Pali
by Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita.
These verses of the Lord Buddha was extracted from Access to Insight,a online Buddhist scripture archive which can be accessed here. May
these verses of wisdom encourage you to do wholesome deeds.
Mind precedes all mental states. Mind is theirchief; they are all mind-wrought. If with an
impure mind a person speaks or actssuffering follows him like the wheel that
follows the foot of the ox.

Just as a storm throws down a weak tree,so does Mara overpower the man wholives for the pursuit of pleasures, who is
uncontrolled in his senses, immoderate ineating, indolent, and dissipated.

Just as a storm cannot prevail against arocky mountain, so Mara can never
overpower the man who lives meditatingon the impurities, who is controlled in hissenses, moderate in eating, and filled with
faith and earnest effort.

Whoever being depraved, devoid of self-control and truthfulness, should don the
monk's yellow robe, he surely is notworthy of the robe.

But whoever is purged of depravity, well-established in virtues and filled with self-
control and truthfulness, he indeed isworthy of the yellow robe.
