CONNECTING YOUR MACHINE TO THE POWER SUPPLY: (230V ONLY)To eliminate the possibility of an electric shock your machine has been fitted with a BSapproved, non rewireable moulded plug and cable which incorporates a fuse, the valueof which is indicated on the pin face of the plug. Should the fuse need replacing an

approved BS1362 fuse must be used of the same rating, marked thus .The fuse cover is detachable, never use the plug with the cover omitted. If a replacementfuse cover is required, ensure it is of the same colour as that visible on the pin face of theplug (i.e. red). Fuse covers are available from your Draper Tools stockist. If the fitted plug is not suitable, it should be cut off and destroyed. *The end of the cableshould now be suitably prepared and the correct type of plug fitted. See below.

*WARNING:A plug with bare flexible wires exposed is hazardous if engaged in a live power socketoutlet.

WARNING:THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.The mains lead is coloured Green and Yellow - Earth, Blue - Neutral & Brown - Live.As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying theterminals in your plug, proceed as follows:The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in yourplug marked with the letter ‘E’ or by the earth symbol or coloured green or green andyellow. The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked withthe letter ‘N’ or coloured black or blue. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is markedwith the letter ‘L’ or coloured red or brown.

ADDITIONAL TABLE SAWSAFETY RULES

WARNINGFor your own safety, do not operate your saw until it iscompletely assembled and installed according to theinstructions....and until you have read and understoodthe following: All safety rules

Assembly proceduresAdjustment proceduresMaintenanceBasic operationsOperating controls

1. STABILITY.The saw must be bolted down. There may be atendency for the saw to tip over or move duringcertain cutting operations, such as, cuttingextremely large heavy panels or long heavyboards.

2. MINIMIZE POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS.Most accidents are caused by FAILURE TOFOLLOW SET UP AND OPERATIONINSTRUCTIONS.Avoid awkward hand positions, where a suddenslip could cause a hand to move into a saw bladeor other cutting tool. Never reach behind, oraround, the cutting tool with either hand to holddown the workpiece, or for any other reason. DONOT PLACE FINGERS OR HANDS IN THE PATHOF THE SAW BLADE.

3. Never reach under your machine when operatingor make any adjustments when it is running.

4. Turn the saw 'OFF' and disconnect the powersupply when changing the cutting tool, removingor replacing the blade guard, or making anyadjustments.

5. Always maintain control of the workpiece. DONOT 'LET GO' of the workpiece until the machinehas stopped.

6. When removing short workpieces, or cleaningup around the table, be sure the saw is switched'OFF'.

7. Never turn the saw 'ON' before clearing the tableof all tools, wood scraps, etc., except theworkpiece and related feed or support devicesfor the operation.

8. When moving the saw, disconnect power supply.9. Never hold onto or touch the 'free end' of the

workpiece or a 'free piece' that is cut off, whilepower is 'ON' and/or the saw blade is rotating.

10. If you stall or jam the saw blade in theworkpiece, turn power 'OFF', remove theworkpiece from the saw blade and check to seeif the saw blade is parallel to the table slots orgrooves and if the riving knife is in alignmentwith the saw blade. If ripping at the time, checkto see if the rip fence is parallel with the sawblade. Adjust as indicated in this manual.WARNING: Do not allow familiarity (gained fromfrequent use of your saw) to becomecommonplace. Always remember that a carelessfraction of a second is sufficient to inflict severeinjury.

11. MAKE SURE YOUR FINGERS DO NOT CONTACTTHE TERMINALS OF THE POWER PLUG wheninstalling or removing from the mains power supply.

12. KICKBACKS - THEIR CAUSE.Kickbacks can cause serious injury. A kickbackoccurs when a part of the workpiece bindsbetween the saw blade and the rip fence oranother object rises from the table and is throwntowards the operator. Kickbacks can be avoidedby attention to the following conditions.:

13. KICKBACK - HOW TO AVOID THEM ANDPROTECT YOURSELF FROM POSSIBLEINJURY.a) Be certain that the saw blade is parallel to

the rip fence.b) Do not rip by applying the feed force to the

section of the workpiece that will becomethe cut-off (free) piece. Feed force whenripping should always be applied betweenthe saw blade and the fence....use a push-stick for short work or less than 6" wide.

c) Keep saw blade guard, riving knife andanti-kickback pawls in place and operatingproperly. The riving knife must be inalignment with the saw blade and the pawlsmust stop a kickback once it has started.Check their action before using for rippingtimber.

d) Plastic and composition (like hardboard)materials may be cut on your saw. However, since these are usually quite hard andslippery, the anti-kickback pawls may notstop a kickback. Therefore, be especiallycareful to follow proper setting up andcutting procedures before ripping.

14. Do not leave a long board (or other workpiece)unsupported so the spring of the board causes itto shift on the table. Provide proper support forthe workpiece, based on its size and the type ofoperation to be performed. Hold the work firmlyagainst the fence and down against the tablesurface.

15. Never use a length stop on the free end of theworkpiece when cross cutting. Never hold ontoor touch the free end of the workpiece whencross cutting, or a free piece that is cut off whenripping while power is 'ON' and/or the saw bladeis rotating. In short, the cut-off piece in any'through-sawing' (cutting completely through theworkpiece) operation must never be confined - itmust be allowed to move laterally.

16. IF YOUR SAW MAKES AN UNFAMILIAR NOISE ORIF IT VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY, CEASEOPERATING IMMEDIATELY UNTIL THE SOURCEHAS BEEN LOCATED AND THE PROBLEMCORRECTED.

17. EXTENSION LEADSThe use of any extension lead will cause someloss of power. To keep this to a minimum and toprevent over heating and motor burn-out, use thetable to determine the minimum size ofextension cable required. Use only extensionleads which have a 3-pin plug and 3-pin socketswhich accept the tools plug.

CUTTING OPERATIONS

There are two basic types of cuts: ripping and cross cutting. In general, cutting with the grain is ripping and cutting across thegrain is cross cutting. However, with man-made materials this distinction is somewhat different to make. Therefore, cutting apiece of wood to different width is ripping and cutting across the short dimension is cross cutting. Neither ripping or crosscutting maybe done safely freehand! Ripping requires the use of a rip fence and cross cutting the use of a mitre gauge.

CAUTION:Before using the saw each time check the following:-

1. Blade is tight.

2. Bevel angle locking knob is tight.

3. If ripping, that the fence locking knobs are tight and the fence is parallel to the table grooves.

4. If cross cutting, mitre gauge locking knob is tight.

5. Guard is in place and functioning properly.

6. Safety goggles, ear defenders and dust mask are being worn.

Failure to adhere to these common safety rules can greatly increase the danger of injury.

Now that you have properly mounted your saw to a suitable bench or stand and have carefully completed the mechanicalalignment of the various components, it is time to become familiar with it’s operation. The best way to do this is to recheck yourmechanical alignments operationally. Before proceeding with these operational checks it is recommended that you read andunderstand the “Ripping and Cross Cutting” sections on page 12.

You will require several pieces of clean smooth and straight scrap wood 50x100x600mm approximately.

1. Set the saw blade at 0° and blade height to approximately 53mm above the table surface. Be sure the blade angleadjustment lock knob is locked before operating the saw. Set your mitre gauge to 90° and place in a table slot on one sideof the saw blade. Cross cut approximately 50mm off the end of a workpiece as shown in Fig.18.

Now make the following checks on the workpiece with a combination square:

a. CHECK SQUARENESS OF THE CUT ACROSS THE 50mmTHICKNESS (FIG.15):

1. If cut is not exactly 90° this means that the 90° positivestop in the table is not properly set.

2. Readjust the 90° end stop.

3. Repeat cross cuts and adjustments until you aresatisfied that the 90° stop and pointer are correct.

b. CHECK SQUARENESS OF THE CUT ACROSS THE 100mmWIDTH (FIG.16):

1. If cut is not exactly 90° this means that the mitregauge 90° setting is wrong.

2. Readjust the mitre gauge 90° setting.

3. Repeat checking cross cuts and adjustments untilsatisfied mitre gauge setting is absolutely correct.

2. Now remove the mitre gauge from the table and clamp the rip fence on the table approximately 90mm on the right handside of the blade. Leave the blade at 0° tilt and 53mm height as was for the previous checks. Make a rip cut as shown in(Fig.17) and make the following observations during the cutting.

a. WAS THERE ANY BINDING ON THE BLADE PRIOR TO THE CUT STRADDLING THE RIVING KNIFE?1. If so, this means that the blade and rip fence are not absolutely parallel.2. To correct this, first check that the rip fence is parallel to the blade in accordance with Fig.5.3. Re-adjust rip fence if necessary and repeat rip cuts and adjustment until satisfied it is correct.4. If the rip fence was not the problem, then the next step is to check the parallelism of the blade to the mitre gauge

slot.5. Readjust blade if necessary.6. Make additional rip cuts and adjustments until satisfied there is no longer a blade binding problem. NOTE: If an

adjustment was made to the blade, then repeat cross cut checks above.

b. WAS THERE ANY BINDING ON THE BLADE AND/OR RIVING KNIFE AS THE RIP CUT STRADDLED THE RIVING KNIFE?1. If so, readjust the riving knife alignment to the blade.2. Repeat rip cuts and realignment until satisfied no binding remains.3. With the saw blade at zero tilt, approximately 53mm high and the blade angle adjustment knob locked, clamp and

rip fence on the right hand side of the table and pointer as exactly 75mm on the rip scale. Make a rip cut on theworkpiece.

Measure the width of the workpiece; it should be exactly 75mm.1. If not 75mm, readjust the pointer.2. Repeat rip cuts and readjustment of pointer until workpiece width is exactly 75mm.

NOTE: Different types of blades make different kerfs (width of cuts), therefore it is necessary to check theadjustment of the rip fence pointer when changing blades.

CUTTING OPERATIONS

RIPPING (Fig.17):Secure the rip fence to the table (see Fig.4, page 8).

Remove the mitre gauge.

Raise the blade so it is 53mm high.

Hold the work piece flat on the table and against the fence.Keep the work piece about 25mm from the blade.

CAUTION:The work piece must have a straight edge against the fenceand must not be warped, twisted or bowed in any way. Keepboth hands away from the blade and away from the path ofthe blade.

Turn the saw on and allow the blade to run up to full speed.

Keeping the work piece against the table and fence, slowlyfeed the work piece towards the saw blade. Stand with yourbody to one side of the blade and at the front of the tablewhen feeding the wood. This will reduce the risk of injuryshould a piece of wood kickback or kick up. Continuepushing the work piece until it is clear of the guard and itfalls off the rear of the table. Do not overload the motor.Never try to pull a work piece back with the blade turning.Turn the switch off, allow the blade to stop and raise the anti-kickback pawls on each side of the riving knife if requiredand slide the work piece out.

BEVEL RIPPING:This operation is the same as ripping except that the bladeangle is set to an angle other than the 0°.

WARNING:ONLY WORK WITH THE WORK PIECE AND RIP FENCE ONTHE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLADE.

CROSS CUTTING (Fig.18.):Remove the rip fence and place the mitre gauge in the tableslot.

Set the blade height 53mm above the top of the work piecetop.

Hold the work piece firmly against the mitre gauge with bothhands.

Start the saw and allow the blade to spin up to full speed.

Whilst gripping the work piece firmly against the gauge andpushing flat against the table, slowly slide the wood throughthe blade.

BEVEL CROSS CUTTING (Fig.19):This operation is the same as cross cutting except that theblade angle is set to an angle other than the 0°.

WARNING:ONLY WORK WITH THE WORKPIECE AND MITRE ON THERIGHT SIDE OF THE BLADE.

RIPPING SMALL PIECES OF WOOD (Fig.20):This is an unsafe practice and not recommended. It is notsafe to have your hands close to the blade. Instead, rip alarge piece of material to obtain the desired size. When asmall piece requires ripping use the push stick provided tohold the work piece in place, keeping your hands away fromthe blade.

CUTTING OPERATIONS

MITRE CUTTING (Fig.21):This operation is the same as cross cutting except the mitreis locking at any angle other than 90°.

COMPOUND MITRE CUTTING:This is a combination of bevel cross cutting and mitrecutting. It is very infrequently used. Follow the instructionsfor both mitre cutting and bevel cross cutting.

MAINTENANCE

CHECKING THE BLADE PARALLELISM(Fig.22):This check should be carried out before each useand adjusted if necessaryEnsure the saw is switched off and the plug isremoved from the power supply. Using a steelruler (Draper Stock No.12614), measure thedistance ✪✌ and the distance ✫✌. If the twodistances differ, the blade is not completelyparallel and requires adjusting.

ADJUSTING THE BLADE PARALLELISM(Fig.23):This can be quite a confined adjustment. Ifdifficulty is encountered, have a qualified Draperrepair agent carry out the work.Loosen ✬✌, ✭✌, ✮✌, ✯✌ and ✰✌ screws andnuts. Adjust the blade and remeasure once all thefixings have been secured. When complete and before carrying out any testcuts, ensure all the fixings are tight.
