1 10 questions with Boogie WYMS Radio Please tell the people a little about yourself - My name is Charlette aka Cha-Boogie. I produce and host the show. Do you have a background in radio?. Yes - I when I was in college SUNY - upstate NY) I did one of those “quiet storm” types of shows, with little segments thrown in for comic relief. It was very popular on campus and we had listeners as far away as Canada and Vermont. I did that for a number of years. How did you go about getting involved with this particular radio program ?- I got into an argument with someone on a blog. It sounds crazy, but it irked me that my comments were dismissed and the blogger called me dumb or something like that. It wasn’t an open forum for ideas amongst my peers. That REALLY bothered me. It really bothered me that this dude had the power to silence me. I kept thinking, I wish there was a show that was for my generation, that didn’t do the whole hollywood kiss ass type of thing and people could say how they feel about what’s really going on in the world. I woke up one morning and decided to do it. I said “fuck it. I’ll do it” Because of my prior experience in media related areas I knew I could put something together that was hot, I just needed the right team to execute my vision. My team needed to be an eclectic mix of personalities from the extreme of the social spectrums. They all had to be opinionated and type “A” personalities with a biting sense of humor. My first call was to Nik Fatale - my homey of over 20 years. She is loud, brash, opinionated and sexy as hell. Next was B-Easy - “the super producer”and my compadre for over 10 years. His personality is amazing, mad laid back and easy going with a crazy sense of humor, but a good eye for bullshit. Next was Ms. 1-Hunnit - she’s that tell-it-like- it-is chick who doesn’t have to raise her voice to get her point across. She is one of the sweetest people I know, but would be quick to punch a nucca in the throat. We’ve known each other for about 3 years, but I feel like she’s been a part of my crew for 20. Last but not least is Craig G - our Resident Hater. I felt the show needed a bit more testosterone and edge. In the 7 plus years I have known him, we always get in to heated debates on every and any Charlette Capers aka Cha-Boogie - the opinionated mastermind behind the internet’s top urban radio news show: WYMS Radio. With a nationwide and international audience joining her “MadMan” movement, Boogie and the MadMen crew seek to educate and entertain the hip-hop nation on news, politcs and social ills from the urban progressive viewpoint. 10 questions with Boogie WYMS Radio

Please tell the people a little about yourself - My name is Charlette aka Cha-Boogie.

It wasn’t

an open forum for ideas amongst my peers.

My first call was to Nik Fatale - my homey of

over 20 years. She is loud, brash, opinionated and sexy as hell. Next was B-Easy - “the super producer”and my compadre for over 10 years. His personality is amazing, mad laid back and easy going with a crazy sense of humor, but a good eye for bullshit. Next was Ms. 1-Hunnit - she’s that tell-it-like-it-is chick who doesn’t have to raise her voice to get her point across.

In the 7 plus years I have known him, we always get in to heated debates on every and any

Charlette Capers aka Cha-Boogie - the opinionated mastermind behind the internet’s top urban radio news show: WYMS Radio.

With a nationwide and international audience joining her “MadMan” movement, Boogie and the MadMen crew seek to educate and entertain the hip-hop nation on news, politcs and social ills from the urban progressive viewpoint.

topic. “The Resident Hater” made my cipher complete.

Why should the people listen to WYMS? - To be entertained and educated. To be able to hear commentary about issues that aren’t discussed in “polite” society. We take on the church, politics, the war, baby mommas, gold diggers, BP...we go in on everything. It is for people that want to take a peek outside of the matrix and get a different opinion than what they have been spoon-fed. I am not out to change beliefs, but I do want people to begin to think for themselves. And when they take that step and have something to say, the WYMS mic will be there so they can tell ‘em why they mad, without judgement or fear of reprisal.

What other projects are you currently working on? - I’m working on making Why You Mad Son Entertainment a media brand. I am developing two new shows for my network, the first to debut this spring. I also want to delve into more in-depth reporting on what is REALLY going on in minority communities - I’m talking about the economic genocide (why is there a Chinese restaurant on every corner - but no Chinese dollars invested on those corners), I would like to investigate the real deal behind these charter schools and their corporate funding, etc... - we need our own Anderson Cooper - and that high yellow chick from CNN ain’t it, nor is it that other black dude from CNN that they roll out every time something “black” happens and it SURE isn’t Jackie Reid. I think the real reason black folk are miseducated is because we don’t have real revolutionaries that will tell us the truth of our condition. We have no journalists,

and our so called “leaders” are peacocks on the stroll for corporate dollars while hiding behind a church. We don’t need god, we need an awakening.

What is your favorite segment of the show? - This sounds cliche’, but all of it. Every segment. To be able to discuss a wide variety of topics maturely, without name calling and actual respect for another’s opinion is like crack to me son. I also like the fact that the show is unpretentious. We cuss. We go in and out of the Queens English to Project Ebonics. It’s raw, it’s real. It’s how most people talk. There are some people that don’t listen because we toss around “MF’er” in the conversation. I was told “you would get a broader audience if you didn’t curse” I say “fuck them”. Every one of us are highly educated and intelligent. We refuse to conform to bullshit media standards. For what? So we can be like Joyner, or the PBS dude or Creflo Dollar? I’d kill myself first. My audience wants it straight - no chaser - with out interference from Jesus or any other corporation.

What’s the most memorable thing a caller/blogger has ever questioned/commented about? - Our most memorable show was our debate on the N-word. We had the debate with some self confessed red-necks from West Virginia (who like their niggers picking cotton and frying chicken ). Goto our website and listen to the on- demand episode. It was crazy.

Where would you like to see the future of WYMS ?- I want to see it as a solid media brand. A source of information and discussion for people who are tired of being spoon-fed bullshyt about what is going on around them. WYMS should be that source for those

who want to talk about the social ills that plaque their homes and neighborhoods that aren’t discussed in polite society.

What do you think of the radio stations that are listened to today (outside of internet stations)? - Straight up bullshyt.

If you were on a popular radio station i.e Hot 97, Power 105, what would you do to change the format to fit the needs of the people? I would never be on one of those stations. First, because it is too local. WYMS is world wide baby. We have listeners in Japan, Germany, the West Indies, and all across the country coast to coast. Second, even if I changed the format (yea right) WYMS would be beholden to the whims of the advertisers - in other words censorship. Can’t do that. It’s not even an option or thought.

Listen to the show on Tuesday nights at 10pm on www.whyyoumadson.com or on www.blogtalkradio.com/wyms. Call in number : 917-889-2924. You can also listen on demand on the website or via iTunes (keyword WYMS).
