City: Macau

Construction Cost: $2.4 billion

The City of Dreams is a resort & gaming complex. It includes the towers you see in the photo but the entire layout is attached – making it a single building and the 10th most expensive in the world.

The Venetian Macau

City: Macau

Construction Cost: $2.45 billion

An American-owned casino and resort, the building has a sister in Las Vegas called The Venetian. The building has a 15,000 seat arena for sporting events.

Cost: $2.7 billion

Another resort and casino, this time in Las Vegas. The resort’s design is deceptively humble. The price tag is not.

A luxury resort designed to celebrate Arabian culture. The building adjoins a 1.3km stretch of private beach and has 394 rooms for residents to stay.

Cost: $3.8 billion

Built on the site of 9/11 to replace the Twin Towers. The One World Trade Centre is a symbol of unity and is often referred to as ‘Freedom Tower.’Much of the hefty price tag went into security and safety to prevent future attacks.

Cost: $3.9 billion

Another Las Vegas hotel and resort. The Cosmopolitan has won the title of ‘best hotel in the world.’

Cost: $5.50 billion

Including the land cost, this building is worth a total of $8 billion. The iconic ‘surfboard’ on the top of the towers is the largest cantilevered platform in the world.

More of a complex than a single building, this site includes a theme park, water park & aquarium. When fully operational, it employs 10,000 people.

Still under construction (& expected to be finished in 2019) – this building uses a special form of energy generation that involves confining plasma using magnetic fields.

It will be the second most expensive building when complete.
