10 DAYS IN DUBLIN

SPOKEN WORDJULY 4- 13 2013

Hey!

I’m Aisling and I’m this year’s 10 Days in Dublin Spoken Word Coordinator.

I can hardly express how excited and impressed I am with the Spoken Word

programme this year and would be as brazen to say I think it’s the strongest

strand in the festival this year. The Spoken Word scene in Ireland is exploding

at the moment and this programme’s eclectic mix encapsulates that. From

some of Ireland’s best contemporary poets and performance poets to new

emerging artists attempting to shake up the traditional delivery in multi-

disciplinary formats. We’ve loads of beautiful and interesting collaborations

also taking place. There’s something for everyone from spontaneous poetry

and role playing to storytelling and speed connecting. Overall I’m delighted

with everyone of my acts and am incredibly proud of this group of artists.

The ladies from Bare Hands and the Ash Sessions combine to bring you a mini Electric Picnic in the heart of Dublin. Featuring Ireland’s leading performance poets Abby Oliviera, Andre K’por and John Cummins, hilariously dark and mischievous tales from Paul Timoney along with a dazzling array of alternative/indie/folk music from Sinead White, Ria Czerniak, Red Sail, Johnny Murphy, Pearse McGloughlin and Justin Grounds. Come. It will only be amazing.

‘We are all on a life long journey and the core of its meaning, the terrible demand of its centrality is forgiving and being forgiven.’

Drifts observes the inextricable links between relationships, addiction and the search for absolution through spoken word and film.Explore the lives of two bodies as they drift into a state that is resisting their return certain that forgiveness will be their reprieve.

Also on display is a wall of words as art in Accents throughout the festival.

In a setting both intimate and spectacular, Token Word navigates ideas of language, community and love to a place where beat poets, brass bands and the blues converge.
