A NEW CHAPTER

In August this year after two years of meticulous planning 10 Castle Street will open its doors.

10 Castle Street is a grade 2* listed country house with glorious formal gardens and ancient woodland. Originally built for the Stillingfleet family in the 1700’s it is now being remodelled to a high standard of luxury. Situated in the heart of the Cranborne Chase, 10 Castle Street will have nine elegant bedrooms, two bars, three dining rooms, a fitness centre and a spa.

There are two sides to 10 Castle Street. The first being a fine dining restaurant, a relaxed bar, a bistro-type dining restaurant and an outside terrace; all situated on the ground floor. Our head Chef Dan Syndercombe comes with a wealth of knowledge and has really honed his skills and own style of modern cuisine.

The second being a private members club which will provide its members an ideal social environment for interaction & inspi-ration. We are here to play host to bright minds with big ideas, provide an atmosphere that’s simultaneously stimulating and relaxing, and offer wine and cuisine worthy of discussion.

ABOUT THE HOUSE

Cranborne Lodge was built in the early 18th Century by the Stillingfleet family who lived in the house until 1750 when Sam-uel Stillingfleet died and the house was sold on to Thomas Erle Drax Esq. who extended the property and made significant internal renovations.

Cranborne Lodge eventually ended up being occupied by Mr Lewis Tregonwell, a west-country man through and through, and his wife Mrs Catherine Tregonwell. The house stayed in the Tregonwell family for many years until it eventually changed hands in 1855 through disjointed inheritance as opposed to sale.

During this period, Cranborne Lodge became the true family home for the Tregonwells, and despite the early demise of his wife Catherine, Lewis stayed at the house until his death in 1832.

Lewis Tregonwell re-married and had three children with his new wife Henrietta Portman. Tragically, their second child died, causing heart-break within the Tregonwell household. Henrietta was distraught and fell into a cycle of depression until Lewis took her to Mudeford for a holiday where Henrietta suggested they build a holiday home.

Lewis proceeded to build what would become the oldest prop-erty in Bournemouth: a mansion facing out across the sea. With the birth of her third child John, Henrietta and Lewis moved back home to Cranborne where they both stayed until their son John inherited Cranborne Lodge.

About our chef...

Dan Syndercombe started his career as a chef working in pubs in his home town of Midhurst, West Sussex. He soon made a name for himself in hotels and restaurants in London as an extremely talented chef before being head-hunted by a private game lodge in South Africa.

He has worked as head chef in Plettenburg Bay, and private game reserves in the Eastern Cape, where he has had some of the best fresh and organic produce to use at his disposal. Dan’s passion is evident in his innovative creations.

Dan believes that free-range organic produce is not just better, because of its purity and freedom from additives, but because it tastes better too. His philosophy is to create fresh, beautifully cooked foods.

Dan is completely committed to supporting small local suppliers who provide top quality produce.
