CHARACTERISTIC OF CO2
1. Carbon Dioxide is 1.5 times heavier than air. It settles down and reduced the oxygen concentration.

2. It changes its shapes i.e. become liquid under certain pressure.
3. It is non-supporter of combustion; it is also called cold gas.
4. When inhaled in large quantity leads to suffocation.
5. It reduces the percentage of oxygen up to 16% to help in quenching the fire its expansion rate is 1:450.
6. Carbon Dioxide is color less, order less gas and has sour taste .
CONTENTS
• Co2 in liquefied form is filled at a pressure of 744 lbs, psi.
• The cylinder is usually filled to approximately 2/3 rd of its total capacity, 1/3 is
for pressure purpose.

METHOD OF CHARGING
Carbon di oxide is produced in special processing plant from where it is filled in cylinder.
OPERATION
• Remove the safety pin and squeeze the grip with the help of handle.
• Direction of discharge horn should be towards flames/fire.
•It is controllable, when the fire is extinguished close the valve and put back the extinguisher at its place for future use.
INSPECTION TEST
• Visual inspection is difficult for carbon dioxide gas fire extinguisher, because
it is color less and can only be checked by blue litmus paper’s
color will change into red.
• Its visual inspection should be carried out half yearly by weight, and all the
parts should be checked thoroughly.
• If the weight is less than 10% Manufacture/Factory for Refill according to its
requirement.

HYDRAULIC PRESSURE

• It is extremely rapid in action and its action is independent of atmospheric
temperature.
• Cleanliness, being an inert gas, It quickly disperses, leaving no trace behind.
• It is a non conductor of electricity.
• It may be used in their earily stages on fires in a number of highly
inflammable liquids.

DISADVANTAGE
• There is no visible check on the content.
• They must be sent away for recharging.
• It should be noted that co2 extinguisher, cannot be used on any material
which contains its own supply of oxygen.
