Dear Parents and Community Scitech Wow, what a day! Our students had an awesome time at the Scitech Incursion, meeting Emma and Kelly. The students were able to first enjoy a science show and then participated in workshops. Some made lava lamps, some made chocolate pudding and there was also an erupting volcano! The students had a wonderful time and are now looking forward to Science Week coming up in the next couple of weeks. Please head to our website to see what the students got up to! Jeans for Genes Day Last Friday, we all wore our favourite jeans to school, in order to raise money for Jeans for Genes and the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Our student leaders spoke to all students about why we participate, what the Research Institute does and where our money goes. Thank you to all families and community members who generously donated on the day. We were very happy to be able to donate $152.00 toward the cause in memory of Campbell Cubitt. Jump Rope for Heart Winding back to last term, and the fantastic work our students did to raise money and their heart health by skipping all term. We now have a total for the amount of money we were able to raise as a school, and donate toward the Heart Foundation. I am so happy to say that we were able to raise $1257.80. What a fantastic effort! Well done to all of our students and sponsors. Eneabba Cross Country Congratulations to all of our students who represented Miling at the Eneabba Cross Country event. Once again they produced some great results and showed some positive sportsmanship on the day. Congratulations to Gemma Seymour and Heidi Seymour who will be going on to compete in Perth on Friday. We wish you the best of luck. Congratulations! Congratulations to Jake McNamara who has been accepted into a hockey program at Como Secondary College next year. You should be very proud of your achievements! Junior Assembly We hope to see you all next Tuesday at our Junior Assembly, where the juniors are going to take you on a trip to the jungle! There will be a P&C meeting following the Assembly. ILN Science Camp / Wheatbelt Science Forum Yesterday, our budding scientists Abby Martin and Nathan Barnard, left to go on their 3-day Science Aspirant Camp in Perth. The itinerary looked busy but full of amazing and fun experiences and I’m sure they will be back next week with plenty of information to share. Next Thursday, our year 5-6’s have been invited to the Wheatbelt Science Forum in Wongan Hills. This year the theme is Exploring and Engaging STEM and the students will have opportunities to participate in a variety of events and workshops throughout the day. Information and permission forms will be coming home today. Communication Just another reminder that you are required to write in all changes to pick up/bus routines in your child’s communication books or diaries. We are experiencing quite a few instances where this hasn’t occurred and it causes confusion and buses to leave late. If the change occurs throughout the day, please give us a quick call at school so that we can inform the classroom teacher. Thank you for your support and understanding with this. 10 AUGUST 2016

Wil’s Words …

It was excing to be at Miling on Jeans for Genes day. All students came in denim (or denim like) pants

and we had Sci-tech visit and do some cool experiments.

We also had some parcularly good discussion around our Game Factory sessions. The Senior Room is

sll learning about perseverance and the need to be brave and parcipate to make progress. We had

been looking in magazines for examples of people being brave, parcularly to achieve something good

but we found almost nothing, it clearly frustrated the students. However, this gave us an opportunity to

reflect on whether the role models in magazines are helpful. So we are going to look for some beer role

models. This week I am asking students to ask their parents when they have decided to do something

difficult or scary and why.

In the Junior Room we have been playing a game to help us control our emoons and maintain good

manners and communicaon while having fun and meeng a challenge. The Juniors knocked my socks

off with their performance at this acvity. They have also planted some carrot seeds and will hopefully be

seeing some seedlings appear this week.

Thank you for reading,

Parent Opinion Survey

On Monday, a note will come home with informaon regarding our Parent Opinion Survey.

This occurs every two years and is extremely useful in providing us with feedback

regarding our school, staff and policies and programs.

The survey is available online, as well as in paper form, so you will also receive an email

with a link and code for access online. This year, the survey has been created in

conjuncon with our School Board so it is more relevant and personal to our school. There

will be more informaon coming home on Monday.
