This course is a comprehensive programme which offers a unique combination of theoretical modules and hands on experience, both with simulated and real life cases.

The clinical lead is Nick Lewis. The course is delivered by consultants and specialist speakers with extensive implant experience including: Nick Lewis, Lloyd Searson, Ken Hemmings and Matthew Jerreat. The course will deliver a structured programme including theory and practical experience in a simulated environment, including real life cases under supervised conditions.

The course is administered and run through the dentac dental education facility. Dentac is short for ‘dental academy,’ and is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art dental training facility located close to the centre of London and only 15 minutes from London Victoria. Established in late 2012, Dentac provide affordable and quality dental educational experience for the entire dental team.

Candidates will be given a live demo of shots on the evening to showcase how simple taking high quality images can be; using basic photographic equipment.

Speakers

Dr. AJ Ray-ChaudhuriAJ is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Implantology at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. He also works in specialist referral practice and is registered with the GDC as a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics & Prosthodontics. He graduated from King’s College London in 2003 and spent 2 years in general dental practice. He then worked as a Senior House Officer for 3 years prior to 5 years of Specialist training at King’s College and St George’s Hospitals in London. During this period he obtained membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons’ of Edinburgh and England. He concurrently read law at Cardiff University and completed his Masters degree with a dissertation in ‘Clinical Negligence in Dentistry’. He was awarded an Honorary Lectureship and Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. AJ still publishes and teaches extensively and is an accredited Expert Witness. He has been placing and restoring Neoss implants for 10 years.

Dr. Nick LewisMr Nick Lewis qualified with Honours at Newcastle University and undertook junior hospital posts at Newcastle Dental Hospital within the departments of Restorative Dentistry and Maxillofacial surgery. He moved to London in 2003 and undertook further maxillofacial training at UCLH and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He commenced higher specialist training at the Eastman Dental Hospital in Restorative Dentistry in 2004, including completion of a Masters in Conservative Dentistry in 2007. He completed his specialty fellowship in Restorative Dentistry in 2008 and was appointed as a Consultant at the Eastman/ UCLH in 2009. He was clinical lead in Prosthodontics at the Eastman from 2010-2014.His main clinical interests are centred on the placement and restoration of dental implants and the dental management of head and neck oncology patients. Mr Lewis is currently the Course Director for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (FGDP) Diploma in Restorative Dentistry and is a Regional Dental Advisor for RCS Edinburgh. He also currently sits on the Health & Science Advisory Committee of the British Dental Association. Mr Lewis is based as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and also maintains a private practice with his wife Jane Lewis.

Dr. James BakerJames graduated with Honours from The University of Leeds where he was awarded the Wattsman Prize for clinical excellence and the Charles Rippon Medal, awarded to the final year’s most distinguished student. His postgraduate studies include a Certificate in Restorative Dental Practice, a Masters Degree in Conservative Dentistry from UCL (awarded with Distinction and the winner of the 3M prize for clinical and academic excellence), Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the British Society of Restorative Dentistry Postgraduate Research Prize. James is registered as a Specialist in Prosthodontics, the branch of dentistry concerned with restoring or replacing damaged or missing teeth. James joined No. 6 in 2004, taking over the ownership of the Practice from Andrew Macdonald in 2006. James practises here four days a week and is a part-time lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute (UCL), where he teaches qualified dentists training to become specialists. James is strongly committed to postgraduate education and attends a wide range of courses and conferences both at home and abroad. He has also been the president of the Dental Society of London and is a serving Council Member for The British Society for Restorative Dentistry.

Dr. Vikram ChuganiVikram is a dentist with specialist interest in Restorative dentistry. His main areas of interest are endodontics and implantology and takes referrals in both of these areas as well as general restorative dentistry.He qualified from The University of Wales College of Medicine and then worked in various hospital restorative posts before obtaining his MFDS from the Royal College of Surgeon in Edinburgh.He obtained his full time Masters in Conservative Dentistry at The Eastman Dental Hospital.He was accredited as a Dentist with specialist interest by the (then) Oxfordshire PCT in 2008 and has since taken referrals both privately and on the NHS specialist pathway. He is a Committee member of the local BDA and has also served on the Restorative Network advisory board to the Local NHS Area team.Vikram started at Wood Lane dentistry in 2002 and started the referral practice there in 2009. He has been a Neoss user since 2007.

Dr. Akil GulamaliAkil graduated with Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Guy’s, King’s and St’Thomas’ School of dentistry, UK in 2003. Having undertaken vocational training, he was appointed as a senior house officer in restorative dentistry. The following year, he was awarded for the Membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS), Royal College of Surgeons of England.The accredited specialist training was completed at the internationally distinguished Eastman Dental Institute of Clinical Excellence, University College London. In 2009, as part of the specialist training, he qualified with distinction as Master of Clinical Dentistry (MClinDent) in fixed and removable prosthodontics. This was subsequently followed by an award for Membership in Prosthodontics; the highest award available for the Prosthodontic mono-speciality by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.Akil is registered as a Specialist in Prosthodontics with the General Dental Council of UK.He has substantive experience as a specialist private practitioner in London and Surrey providing general and specialist restorative dental care. He has held position as a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute and remains committed to continuous postgraduate teaching and research. This is supported further by publications in the refereed dental journals and presentations at the International Academy of Dental Research. He is an accredited member of The International Team of Implantology, The British Society of Restorative Dentistry and The British Society of Prosthodontics, organisations at the forefront promoting excellence in restorative and implant dentistry.

Dr. Wail GirgisWail trained at Kings College Hospital Dental School, London and went on to complete an MSc degree in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital, London where he taught thereafter as a clinical lecturer. He is a member of the International Team for Implantology for whom he is a clinical lecturer. Wail is a partner at Devonshire House Dental, Cambridge and a Specialist Prosthodontist.

Dr. Ken HemmingsKen graduated with honours in Dental Surgery from Bristol University in 1982. Junior hospitals posts followed at Bristol, Birmingham and Torquay before gaining a Registrar in Oral Surgery position at the Royal London Hospital. He gained his London fellowship in 1986 before entering the specialty of Restorative Dentistry. Whilst studying for a two year MSc programme in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital he avoided financial destitution by working part-time as a Registrar and in general dental practice. He completed Senior Registrar training at the Eastman in 1993. He took up a full time consultant post in the departments of Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology in August 1995. He is recognised by the GDC as a specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontology and Endodontics. He was president of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry 2014-15. His research interests and publications, including two books, have covered the management of toothwear, hypodontia, tooth replacement and periodontal/restorative interactions. He now shares his time between hospital and private practice. He has been involved with Neoss implants since their introduction into the UK in 2000.

Dr. Dipesh KothariDipesh is a general and referral dentist with special interests in Restorative and Implant dentistry. Having completed the ‘Advanced Dental Seminars’ program in London and an MSc in Implantology at the University of Bristol he is well trained in clinical photography. He has previously spoken on the topic for the ITI and has been invited to repeat the talk at the University of Bristol later this year. Dipesh is an enthusiastic speaker who is keen to share his knowledge openly and welcomes an interactive participation.

Dr. Lloyd SearsonLloyd graduated in 1980 from the Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff. Following graduation, he continued to work at the school in the departments of Oral Surgery and Conservative Dentistry before accepting a post in the department of Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute. In 1983 Lloyd won a prestigious, highly competitive Science and Engineering Research Scholarship which allowed him to enroll onto the Master of Science in Restorative Dentistry programme at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA.After completing his MSc in 1985, Lloyd returned to work at The Eastman Dental Institute where he was a highly respected and longstanding Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Prosthodontics department for over twenty years. During this time, Lloyd took over one of the most illustrious restorative practices in London and The London Centre for Prosthodontics was born.In addition to his time spent at the practice, Lloyd lectures nationally and internationally in all aspects of prosthodontics and implant dentistry. He is renowned as one of the leading implant surgeons in the United Kingdom and he has co-authored two books on the subject. He continues to treat cases and teach within the hospital setting as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Kings College Dental Hospital. Lloyd continues to be invited to serve as an examiner for various post-graduate degrees at centres such as the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr. Matthew JerreatI qualified in dentistry at Bristol University in 1999 and completed my Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry in 2006 (Royal College Surgeons, Edinburgh). I provide management of patients with head and neck cancer and developmental disorders. My specialist interests include multidisciplinary care of patients with orthodontic-restorative needs and the rehabilitation of cancer patients with dental implants. As the Managed Clinical Network chair in Restorative Dentistry for the Southwest I am developing a network across the region to help provide specialist services to all patients and improve quality of care.I have a passion for education. I am clinical lead for the Exeter Education Facility and Associate Professor in Clinical Education in Plymouth University. I have played an active role in the development of the dental virtual patient a tool to develop treatment planning skills and I am responsible for the implant dentistry modules for the postgraduate cert/diploma/masters in Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology. I am the Training Program Director for Restorative Dentistry in the Southwest and Honorary Secretary of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry both of which allow me to share my enthusiasm for my specialty.
