About the workshopOn “Cyber Security” It is expected that the national workshop would provide needed exposure to many faculty across our country while VFSTR shall be able to showcase our strength in that area. This workshop shall also help build a knowledge base and networking among PhD and M. Tech students at VFSTR-GUNTUR and peers from institutions and industry.

Objectives of the Course Security and privacy of information has become a crucial aspect of our digital world. Smooth functioning of organiza-tions, governments, nations and the global economy hinges on security of underlying digital infrastructure. A practitioner of security not only needs to know the theory and science of security,butalsoneedstobeequallyfluentinsecurityengi-neering. Practice of security engineering has been impeded due to 3 main reasons: knowledge of tools, access to core infrastructure of the Internet (like DNS, Mail server, routers), and potential retribution from the authorities if usage of tools goes away. In order to address these shortcomings, this laboratory course will introduce the participants to security tools in 3 broad categories: offensive tools, defensive mech-anisms, forensic tools. To reproduce the experiments in lab-oratories, attendees will be taught to deploy a safe virtualized environment. The proliferation of commercial activities over different networked systems has brought security concerns on an unprecedented scale. From traditional Internet-based applications to newly emerging ubiquitous services over 3G, Wireless LAN, and mobile ad hoc networks, there is an in-creasingdemandofmeasurestoguaranteetheconfidential-ity, integrity, and availability of system services. Hence, rais-ing awareness and understanding on the issues involved in network and information security is of supreme importance.

This workshop aims at providing a forum for experts for discussing, identifying open and potential problems of In-formation and cyber Security. Members of the research and academic community will be able to interact on cutting-edge and ground breaking topics in Cyber, Network and Information Security.Areas to be covered as part of the workshop.
