    LESSONS LEARNED

Staggered deployment Need support positions to ensure

successful implementation of 1:1 Consistent and regular communication

with all role groups crucial tosuccessful implementation; planningteam representatives providedopportunities for colleagues to posequestions or provide input that werediscussed at planning meetings

    Cant possibly anticipate everything(kernel panics)

Not as bad as we thought (no thefts, damage minimal)

Continual refinement; evolution Need for consistent enforcement and

    implementation (e.g.-team-initiatedlaptop inspections)

Guidebook revisions were necessary Created KMS Classroom

Expectations poster for year 2 Teachers willing to enforce guidelines

to hold students accountable foracceptable use

Needed to develop a systematiccyberethics curriculum

Continue PBL Continued need for team/grade

    curricular planning

Need for more Cyber Safety training-expert to speak to parents/teachers/students

Plan effectively to mitigate issuesinvolved with construction/move, newhardware, OS, and software

Need to have time for Task Forceretreats

From Retreat: consistency betweenteams and the need for techbenchmarks (7-12), info literacy, whatdo we do with parents with limited techproficiency

A number of initiatives ran simultaneously atthe start of school. This presentedchallenges on many different levels.

Emphasis should be placed on educatingstudents about proper laptop use ratherthan monitoring. Monitoring usually teachesstudents to avoid getting caught rather thandoing whats right.

iPads purchased through the grant were the1st generation and has limited capabilities. We need to pilot the iPad 2 to determine ifissues with the original iPad are resolved.

Another grant proposal will be submitted forthis.

The mobile devices also need to be placed

into the hands of students for testing/logistics management purposes. A grantproposal will be submitted for this.

Affirmation that our schoolcommunity is highly focused onpreparation for and move into ournew facility that features an open, flexible learning environment.Need to be mindful of this whenscheduling software upgrades andnew hardware deployment.

More can be done to educatestudents on the acceptable use ofcomputers/technology at KMS.Need to tap into other programs tocover cyberethics for acomprehensive approach.

Technology Task Force determinedthat a large scale deployment ofiPads in a 1:1 environment werenot feasible in our institution.
