When deciding whether Odyssey would become a “One to One” (1:1) or a “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) school, we evaluated the pros and cons of both and chose to go with the program that most benefited the students and their learning goals. Below is a comparison of 1:1 vs. BYOD. Odyssey Charter School Chromebooks 1:1 vs BYOD 1:1 BYOD Initial Cost Odyssey purchased devices so every student, regardless of economics, can benefit from technology in the classroom. Parents are responsible for the initial purchase cost. Not all fam- ilies can afford devices. Support Odyssey can support every de- vice because it is all one plat- form. We can replace a device on the spot. Schools cannot offer support to devices because of ownership issues and the vast number of different platforms. Insurance Odyssey can provide an oppor- tunity to purchase insurance at reduced rates for students who qualify. Insurance rates are set by the provider. No discounts are pro- vided for the number of students or qualifying economics. Liability Odyssey has a vested interest in the safety and care of the devices. Schools with BYOD programs exempt themselves of all liability for personal devices. Filtering Odyssey offers multi-layer filter- ing to help protect students from inappropriate material. This filter works with any network. Students can use their own 3/4G networks to access any material and can share their network with others.
