Comparison chart of 1:1 ratio versus Bring Your Own DeviceTRANSCRIPT
-
When deciding whether Odyssey would become a One to One (1:1) or a Bring
Your Own Device (BYOD) school, we evaluated the pros and cons of both and chose to go
with the program that most benefited the students and their learning goals.
Below is a comparison of 1:1 vs. BYOD.

1:1 BYOD
Initial Cost
Odyssey purchased devices so
every student, regardless of
economics, can benefit from
technology in the classroom.
Parents are responsible for the
initial purchase cost. Not all fam-
ilies can afford devices.
Support
Odyssey can support every de-
vice because it is all one plat-
form. We can replace a device
on the spot.
Schools cannot offer support to
devices because of ownership
issues and the vast number of
different platforms.
Insurance
Odyssey can provide an oppor-
tunity to purchase insurance at
reduced rates for students who
qualify.
Insurance rates are set by the
provider. No discounts are pro-
vided for the number of students
or qualifying economics.
Liability Odyssey has a vested interest in
the safety and care of the
devices.
Schools with BYOD programs
exempt themselves of all liability
for personal devices.
Filtering
Odyssey offers multi-layer filter-
ing to help protect students from
inappropriate material. This filter
works with any network.
Students can use their own 3/4G
networks to access any material
and can share their network with
others.
