Poundbury (Duchy of Cornwall)
• Central to the Duchy of Cornwall’s design and development work, Poundbury is the urban extension to the town Dorchester and is considered a pioneering example of urban development.
• Masterplanning and design at Poundbury seek to implement the principles expounded in HRH The Prince of Wales’ 1989 book A Vision of Britain.
• The total project area is 155 hectares, with building split into 4 separate phases.
• Development is due for completion in 2025, by which time Poundbury will include 2,200 homes.
• As at the beginning of 2013, there were 2,250 people living in Poundbury and 1,660 employed in 40 businesses.
• Poundbury showcases local and traditional materials, mixed uses, and pedestrian-friendly street design, and includes 35% social housing.
• The country’s first full-scale Anaerobic Digester and Biomethane-to-Grid Plant, provides renewable gas direct to the local community in Poundbury. At maximum capacity the plant will provide renewable gas for 56,000 new-build homes in the summer and 4,000 in the winter.
Jamaica (Rose Town project)
• The Prince’s Foundation has been involved in work in Rose Town, Jamaica since 2006 and has worked with international and local partners, including the Rose Town Benevolent Society, as well as the local community to formalise settlement and improve living conditions.
