What’s New in Our Church Library? A number of books have been donated to the main
library section from the UMW library. For our seasoned
adults, we now have ―Alone and Invisible No More, How
Grassroots Community Action and 21st Century Technolo-
gies Can Empower Elders to Stay in Their Home and Lead
Healthier and Happier Lives‖, by Allen S. Teel, M.D. For
everyone, ―The Scandalous Message of James: Faith
Without Works is Dead‖ by Elsa Tamez. This new edition
challenges Christian communities, study groups and indi-
viduals to practice community values taught by Jesus and
urged by James. A study/ discussion guide is included
within this book. Our youngest readers will enjoy
―Beatrice’s Goat‖ by Page McBrier—a story of how the
Heifer Project can and does benefit others throughout the
world. Also recommended for young readers is ―Muskrat
Will be Swimming‖ by Cheryl Savageau. This book has
achieved several awards such as ―Skipping Stones Book
Award for Exceptional Multicultural and Nature/Ecology
Books‖ as well as other awards and has been designated as
a ―Notable Book for Children‖ by the Smithsonian.
Our Media section has added new CDs/DVDs.
Hillsong, ‖No Other Name‖, and Bethel, ―We Will Not be
Shaken‖, although contemporary, offer soothing and wor-
shipful peace. Great background music for Bible reading,
study or contemplation! Additionally, the Bethel package
includes a DVD of the recording concert at beautiful Mt.
Shasta Lake in California. For families, especially Moms,
we have added the DVD ―Mom’s Night Out‖, rated PG.
This is a very funny movie depicting what could go wrong
when Moms try to have a peaceful, grown-up evening of
dinner and conversation with other Moms.
We have many more offerings for you to enjoy.
Please come and visit your church Library!

Athens. Lunch will be downtown at The Last Resort.
Later in the afternoon we’ll stroll the State Botanical Gar-
dens, which should be in full spring bloom! We will ride
together in the bus there and back, leaving at 9:30am and
returning by 5:00pm. To reserve your spot on the bus,
please contact the Church Office by Monday, April 20th.
CFUMC Preschool Registration for the 2015-2016 school year is un-
der way! The Clarkesville First UMC Preschool serves
children ages 2-4 and spaces are going quickly! Interested
parents are encouraged to call 706-754-1313 or 706-499-
1224 and schedule a visit.
In February, the children learned about police offi-
cers with a visit from Sargent Ryan Ledford and Corporal
Adam Ray with the Clarkesville Police Department. The
3
children had a great time exploring the police car and
learning about the uniforms that police offers wear every-
day! We also received a visit from Patrick Farmer and his
"big rig". The children learned that we depend on trucks
to deliver many products that we need every day. They
had a great time exploring the cab of the truck and blow-
ing the horn. Pictures are below from both exciting visits.
We are now learning about Easter through art,
stories and the Bible. The children are learning that Jesus
is alive and is with them always. We will have an Easter
celebration on Thursday, April 2nd and the preschool stu-
dents are invited to attend the CFUMC Easter Egg Hunt
on Saturday, March 28th from 10:00-11:30am.
We are thankful to all the people who give to the
Preschool. Cassidy Iverster, a high school student and
youth group participant, recently started volunteering 2
days/week with the children. Cassidy is willing to do any-
thing from making copies to helping children wash hands,
and the children love her! We appreciate her willingness
to serve. Thank you also to Pat Foster for supplying cook-
ies for our Valentine party and to Beryl Alford and Mary
Lanier for donations of educational supplies. CFUMC
Preschool is very blessed by the generosity of church
members. Thank you for your love and support! Susan Weidner, CFUMC Preschool Director
United Methodist Men The United Methodist Men will
not meet on Thursday, April 2nd. All men
are encouraged to attend the Maundy Thursday Service on
Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary. The Men
will resume meeting in May. Dave McClure, President

The Hearts of Grace UMW Circle is a group of
young ladies ages 25-55 sharing and praying together for
others. Each year, the Hearts of Grace Circle hosts the
Ladies Advent Luncheon with the help of the Friends in
Faith UMW Circle. This past year, with the money that
was raised, we were able to give 2 families in need gift
cards for Christmas. Our Circle also participates in the
church by donating Easter Eggs for the Children’s Easter
Egg Hunt, hosting a Learn More Luncheon, missions, Va-
cation Bible School, Food 2 Kids, and more. We are an
organization that supports our church in many different
ways, and we invite other young ladies in our congrega-
tion to be involved. Beginning in May, the Hearts of
Grace Circle will meet on the first Sunday of each month
at 5:30pm. This is a change from meeting on the second
Sunday at 5:30pm. For more information, please contact
Lisa Nicholson, 706-499-8274.
Children and Youth News The Youth and Children had an exciting March,
including the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt at the Parson-
age! Thank you to all who donated their time and re-
sources so that the children could
have a great time hunting for eggs
filled with delicious candy. Pic-
tures forthcoming from this event.
The youth had their Con-
firmation Retreat this past month.
Pictured are Austin Thompson,
Thomas Hotard, and James An-
gel, this year’s Confirmation Stu-
dents. We had a blast making
stoles, playing games, and enjoy-
4
ing all Lake Junaluska has to offer on our retreat. Re-
cently, the youth spent a wonderful Sunday evening at the
Thompson Home. Jimmy, Cariedda, and Kelly hosted us,
and prepared hot dogs, and a bonfire. Even though it
rained, we still roasted s’mores under the covered porch
and the boys played basketball in the rain. It was a great
evening, and we are thankful for the Thompson’s hospital-
ity!
Coming up this month, the youth will
have some activities during spring break! On Tues-
day night, April 7th, we will play games at the church
from 5:00-7:00pm. Dinner will be included. On Thurs-
day, April 9th, Josey and Brian Butcher will be at Zaxby's
from 12:00-1:00pm for lunch with whoever wants to join
us! Parents, please pay attention to your emails this month
as Brian will send updates regarding these events and
other pending activities.
Remember that registration is currently open for
this summer’s Lake Junaluska Retreat, July 12-16! This
retreat is open to rising 6th-12th grade students. The de-
posit is $100, and that is non-refundable after June 3rd.
Talk to Brian Butcher soon to save your spot! Brian Butcher

Monthly Local
Outreach Focus: Food 2 Kids Food 2 Kids will continue to be our spring local
outreach focus. We had a good beginning in March with 4
children sponsored! To keep up with the number of chil-
dren CFUMC is sponsoring for the coming school year,
there is a bulletin board display in the Fellowship Hall.
Each time we collect enough to fund one child, $260, a
heart is placed on one of the cardboard ―children‖ on the
board. Letters have gone out to over 100 county churches
as we offer the Habersham community an opportunity to
help again this year. We want to give a shout out to
LeAnne Nicholson, music teacher at Faith Christian Acad-
emy, who designated proceeds from their March 31st
Spring Variety Show to Food 2 Kids. Gifts may be given
in honor or in memory of a special someone. Creative
fundraising is fun! Everyone’s giving helps us reach our
goal of alleviating hunger for our children. Please note
your gift Food 2 Kids.
Thank you for being such a compassionate
church! You generously responded during the winterwear
collection for Holly Springs UMC. 82 items were gath-
ered to replace their outreach supply which was stolen.
The special offering for our North Georgia Homeless &
Housing Council raised $688.71. Jennifer Boydstun, Di-
rector of Community Ministries, is serving on this Council
now and she can attest that the Council is a wise steward
of the offering funds in screening applications and award-
ing grants for those in ministry with the least of these in
our Conference. Be sure to read the article from our Mis-
sion Team (below). They have a local ramp building pro-
ject on Saturday, April 11th, which is a rare Saturday op-
portunity to participate. Grab your hammer and come!
Mission
Team
It appears winter is finally behind us, Hal-
leluiah! As long and cold as this winter has been, Mission
Team has completed 2 ramp projects this year. (pictures
attached). Looking forward we have a busy year ahead,
with 6 requests already pending.
As our projects are generally scheduled during the
work week, many are precluded from participating by the
burdensome problem of earning a living. To provide a
broader opportunity, we will be scheduling several pro-
jects for Saturdays this season. These opportunities will be
announced in the Grapevine and in at least one Sunday
bulletin before. Check the Sunday bulletin before for spe-
cifics. Contact Jerry Medlock (706-768-3111/
[email protected]) or Dave McClure (706-949-4061/
[email protected]) with questions or comments.
The first of these projects is in Alto on Saturday April 11th.
All you need is a willing attitude. Tools and instruction are
provided. Bring your personal hand tools if you wish.
Come when you can, do what you can, stay as long as you
can.

Stephen Ministry Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ com-
mand to love one another. Through one-to-one caring
and confidential relationships, those who are hurting
receive the love and care they need to support them.
Monthly, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen
Leaders for supervision and continuing education. For
more information or a confidential referral to a Stephen
Minister, please call Stephen Ministry Team Leader,
Ron Waters, or the Church Office.
CommUnity Thrift Have you ever wondered why the ―U‖ in com-
munity is capitalized? It is to emphasize the word
―unity‖ as we work together in harmony as a church
community, serving our local community. It takes many
different gifts and talents from all of us to keep the thrift
store going. If your talent is cleaning, the Board would
welcome a volunteer who could come in once each
week when the store is closed to tidy up. Please call the
Church Office, 706-754-2677, if you can help in this
way.
Meals On Wheels Our week to deliver is always the first week af-
ter the first Sunday of each month. Thank you to
Charles and Howard Burke for being our March drivers!
Our April drivers are Steve and Sandy Blake. Many
thanks to each of those who help with this ministry. To

Many thanks to you all, our dear church family for all the beautiful
cards, and comforting words during my father, Clarence Irwin's final
days. While we are grieving, we are grateful to have had him for
95 wonderful years. His last few weeks were difficult, but I often
came home to cards and notes, filled with love and support from our
CFUMC family. Your thoughts and prayers were felt and appreciated
more than you know.

It Served Our Lord Well
The members of our church have mixed emotions as they bid farewell to
the ―old parsonage‖ that sits beside our sanctuary on Washington Street. For
many years it has been referred to as ―the annex.‖ It served our Lord well.
I often wandered through it and imagined the pastor’s families of the past
scurrying about in that cozy brick house. It was utilized for many things after it was retired as
a parsonage, and at one time or another it has housed our church library, Sunday School
classes, our youth group, our Stephen Ministries, our prayer group, the Boy Scouts, etc.
We will have a brief time after our 11:00am worship service on this very Sunday, March
29th, to ―deconsecrate‖ the building. Through the years it has become a maintenance issue and
the presence of asbestos makes it impossible to do renovations that are practical. Some time
ago, in establishing long range plans, the church voted for its eventual removal. That time has
come.
The old parsonage/annex will be open on Sunday morning for those who wish to say
goodbye. May it be said of us one day that we too ―served our Lord well.‖
