electrically operated The first computers to start using some

componentry

Eniac U.S. army needed a computer for

calculating artillery-firing tables, the settings used for different weapons under varied conditions for target accuracy

John Mauchly and John Eckert developed(1946) using vacuum tubes to speed up calculations.
