A Letter from Tau President
Tau Tales December 2010
Volume 10, Number 3
A few weeks ago I was shopping in a local home improvement store. As
I was checking out the clerk kept looking at me and finally asked, "Were
you Mrs. Eisinger?" (Secretly I love when they say WERE like we
change in our later lives.) I told her I was and she informed me that I had
been her third grade teacher. I actually did remember her which isn't al-
ways the case with former students when they are now in their 30s. She
began to tell in detail about some science experiment we had done in
class. I paid for my purchases trying to hurry her along aware of the peo-
ple behind me in line. She then came around the counter and gave me a
big hug.
As I was walking to my car I heard a voice call out, "Ma'am, can I ask
you something?" I figured it had been someone behind me in line who
was angry at me for holding them up, so I politely turned with a pasted
smile on my face only to see a handsome young man. He told me he had
been in the other line and had witnessed the exchange between my former
student and me. He asked me, "Does that happen often?" I told him that
yes in fact it happened quite a bit and I knew of many teachers who had
experienced the same thing.
At our executive meeting at Bogeys this summer, Paulette Fischer was
recognized by the server who was a former student. Charlotte Duden-
hoeffer and I were eating at Chili's one night and a young woman came
over to say hello and tell Charlotte how much she had enjoyed student
council because of Mrs. D. I was once with another teacher friend in St.
Louis at a gift shop and the owner recognized my friend as her former
fifth grade teacher from Independence, MO.
We have all had these "recognizing" experiences and isn't it beyond ex-
planation?
The young man began to tell me that he had always wanted to be a
teacher. Was in fact in college now but his parents had talked him out of
teaching because they felt he couldn't make a nice income from it. The
young man said that after seeing me and my former student that day he
knew that had to be the best feeling the world, to know that you have af-
fected someone's life in only a way that only a teacher can.
I looked at the young man and said, "You know, meeting a former stu-
dent unexpectedly and having them remember you fondly or remember
something you did or said in the classroom is worth any paycheck in the
world." I urged him to think about his future carefully.
Aren't you, as DKG members, thankful every single day you became a
teacher? Linda

Tau Chapter Minutes 11 September 2010
Linda Eisinger called the meeting to order. An explanation was given about the Silent Auc-tion items and book exchange. Thanks were given to Rosalie for opening her beautiful home to us and the hostesses for the lovely brunch. Roll call was completed. The minutes from last meeting were approved. There were no new treasury minutes. Judy Stanford was presented a pin for 28 years of service to DKG. A special honor was given to Margaret Crews. Arlene Broker eulogized Margaret for the Chapter. Margaret Crews became a member of DKG on November 8, 1975. The Mid-Regional Brunch was discussed. Commit-tees will be needed for table decorations, door prizes, and entertainment. Debbie Ferguson will be leading this huge effort. Charlotte Dudenhoeffer and Ashley Angle will have indi-vidual gifts for all those that attend. Committee reports were given. The service project for February will be school supplies, warm weather gear, underwear, and baby items. A sug-gestion for April was Easter Baskets and for next September, Halloween costumes. Judy shared Tau Tale news. Several hard copies of Tau Tales will be sent to members that do not receive email. Gloria handed out CDs of the handbook to everyone and explained how to use it. As preparation was made for the Sister Feud skit, some members suggested it be done next year in the summer when there were fewer items on the agenda. The next meet-ing will be the Mid-Regional Brunch and will be December 4 at the Lake at the Osage Na-tional Golf Resort and will cost $15.00. The meeting was adjourned for the Sister Feud presentation and the results of the Silent Auction.
Respectfully Submitted,
Julie Martin, Secretary
Dear Tau Chapter Members,
It‟s the holiday season in full swing, so I know all of you are busy with special events and
family gatherings. The December 4th Mid Mo Meeting at Osage National Golf Course will be
a great time to visit with chapter members and celebrate the season. For the program at the
Mid Mo Meeting, Amy Yoder, School of the Osage High School choir director, will entertain
us with her select singing group, Les Chanteurs. State President Sue Groves will briefly ad-
dress everyone at the meeting as well. Our February program is tentatively scheduled to be a
discussion on State Convention planning by area coordinator Jana Siefkas.
As a reminder, if you have changes in personal information that need to be updated in our
handbook, please let me know, and I will make sure the membership is informed of any and
all additions and changes. I look forward to seeing all of you at the December 4th meeting!

copy to form and return to it or email it to me.

Contributions to/participation in Delta Kappa Gamma:
Margaret’s contributions to Tau Chapter during her 35 years of membership include
many “behind the scenes” efforts. She was a key contributor with the early editions of “Tau Tales” and served the chapter many years in the positions of treasurer and parliamentarian. Tau Chapter history lists these contributions:
Margaret was appointed Treasurer of Tau Chapter in 1982 and served until 1992.
She then served as Parliamentarian (1992-2008).
Margaret helped with the preparation of the early editions of “Tau Tales” (using mimeograph and offset printing).
She was instrumental in preparing a pictorial directory of Tau Chapter members in 1990.
Margaret was recognized at the December, 2005, meeting for outstanding dedication to Tau Chapter with a 30-year membership pin.
Contributions to education:
Margaret taught business education at Nichols Career Center/Jefferson City Public Schools for twenty years and retired in 1989. Her contributions to the business education program at JC include:
Margaret developed a vocational program for students utilizing the offset press which covered all phases of planning and printing documents and publications.
She incorporated her experience as a secretary in career-preparation courses.
Margaret served as the Marcullus yearbook advisor in 1968-69 and continued to assist with that publication by prepar-ing copy and proofreading.
The early “Write On” booklets were produced thanks to Margaret’s assistance with “typing” the text, running the offset press, and collating/binding copies. These booklets were a collaborative effort of the English, Art, and Business Departments at JC.
She collaborated with another business educator to use a team approach to instruction in the Secretarial/Office Tech-nology capstone course at Nichols Career Center.

This “kids‟ cart” was created by 7th
and 8th grade gifted students at
Osage Middle School in Lake
Ozark, MO for a contest entitled
Pimp My Cart. The cart (once a
plain brown metal library cart) was
inspired by the comeback of the
television show Hawaii Five-O.
The front of the cart houses two
tropical birds with leis as “book
hangers”. The tiki torches provide
“light” for the coconut monkey reading as he
relaxes in his hammock. The large ocean wave
sports the cart‟s name “Book „Em Danno”.
The back of the cart has a foam cutout of`
“Danno” from the new Hawaii Five-O drama
(“Danno” is complete with shades, a lei, and a
Hawaii Five-O badge). The top shelves of the
cart represent a beach with real sand, seashells,
flip-flops, and reading material. The top
shelves are labeled “Lei Your Books Here!”.
The two lower shelves on each side are still
useable; the grass skirts slide back to reveal
shelf space for plenty of books. The final detail
of the pimped cart is a flashing red police light
housed behind the grass skirts. You are more
than welcome to see the cart in person by visit-
ing the library at Osage Middle School on
HWY 42 in Osage Beach.

To get there from Osage National, you will head west toward Osage Beach:
do not take the new bypass but take the “old Hwy 42” and turn left on HWY
42 where Walgreens sits on the left side at the corner. The high school is on
the left about 2 miles down where you will turn left at the lights.
