Why Is It So Hard to Start the Car in Winter?

#1 - Gasoline, like any other liquid, evaporates less when it is cold. You

have seen this -- if you pour water onto a hot sidewalk it will evaporate a lot

faster than it will from a cooler place like a shady sidewalk. When it gets

really cold, gasoline evaporates slowly so it is harder to burn it (the gasoline

must be vaporized to burn).

#2 - Oil gets a lot thicker in cold weather. You prob-

ably know that cold pancake syrup or honey from the

refrigerator is a lot thicker than hot syrup or honey.

Oil does the same thing. So when you try to start a

cold engine, the engine has to push around the cold,

gooey oil and that makes it harder for the engine to

spin.

#3 - Batteries have problems in cold weather, too. A battery is a can full of

chemicals that produce electrons. The chemical reactions inside of batteries

take place more slowly when the battery is cold, so the battery produces

fewer electrons. The starter motor therefore has less energy to work with

when it tries to start the engine, and this causes the engine to crank slowly. Article compiled from How Stuff Works

The Funny Bone

An apparent drunken cowboy lay

sprawled across three seats in a

posh Amarillo Theater.

When the usher came by and

noticed him, he whispered to the

cowboy, “Sorry, sir, but you’re

only allowed one seat.” The

cowboy just groaned but didn’t

even budge.

The usher became more impatient

and insistent: “Sir, if you don’t

get up from there I’m going to

have to get the police.” Once

again, the cowboy just groaned.

A Texas Ranger arrived, surveyed

the situation briefly, then asked,

“Alright buddy, what’s your

name?”

“Sam,” the cowboy moaned.

“Where y’all from, Sam?” asked

the Ranger.

With terrible pain in his voice, a

grim expression and without

moving a muscle, Sam said,

“The balcony.”

Winnie the Pooh,

Beloved Children’s Book and Ancient Wisdom?

People have said the precious, cuddly, loveable

Winnie the Pooh is actually a model of simplicity and

perfection that we can all aspire to! Piglet said it best,

“Pooh hasn’t much brain, but he never comes to any

harm. He does silly things and they turn out right.”

He’s a reminder that when we discard arrogance,

complexity and a few other things that get in the way,

we can discover a simple, childlike and mysterious

secret: Life is Fun!

We’re Turning Friday the 13th

into your LUCKY DAY!

The Ultra-Shake

To help take off those holiday pounds:

2 scoops of rice protein powder

1 Tbsp organic combination flax and borage oil

2 Tbsp ground flaxseeds

Ice (if desired)

6-8 oz filtered water to desired consistency

½ cup of frozen or fresh non-citrus organic fruit such as cherries,

blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, peaches, pears, or frozen bananas

Optional: add 1 tbsp of nut butter (almond, macadamia, pecan) or ¼ cup

of nuts soaked overnight such as almonds, walnuts, pecans or any

combination

Add the wet ingredients to a blender first, then add the dry ingredients and

blend it up! Tell yourself it tastes like pancakes and bacon.

Thanks for the Kind Words

During a routine oil change and tire

rotation the service manager

showed me that the seven year old

battery was dangerously close to

the end of it life and recommended

I have a new one installed. A new

one was installed on the spot. Now

I have peace of mind and won't

worry about that type of over-the-

road failure for the immediate

future. I was pleased to learn that

the tire rotation was complimentary

because I had purchased the tires

from 1 Stop. Have been a customer

for five + years.

There will be a great clash of cosmic forces this month! A

traditionally unlucky day will feature some of the most adorable

creatures ever! Friday the 13th

is ALSO Dress Up Your Pet

Day this year. Do you have the most stylish cat or dog on the

block? Well, you’ll have the opportunity to show off your pet’s

fashion sense this month.

With the big day just around the corner, now is the time to

coordinate some fabulous outfits so your pet can celebrate

in style! This is your chance to make Fido fit for the runway.

But, remember your pet’s personality. Your regal Doberman

will not appreciate being dressed in a pink sweater. He is more

likely to appreciate a fashionable camo fleece or a biker hat.

Then again, your Bichon Frise might love the pink

sweater. Now if you own a Persian cat, obviously you'll want to

have her pink velveteen jeweled cat collar ready so she can be

presented as the princess that she is!

Squelch that fear with these 13 Friday the 13th Weird Facts:

1. Afraid of Friday the 13th? That’s called paraskavedekatriaphobia or just fear of the number 13 in

general is called triskaidekaphobia. (I’m scared of pronouncing those words!)

2. Many hospitals and hotels have no room number 13

3. Many buildings don’t have 13th floor

4. Many airplanes don’t have a 13th row or flight 13 or even flight 1313!

5. Many ships will not start a voyage on the 13th, particularly Friday the 13th.

6. The Greek philosophers also called 13 an “imperfect” number. So we clearly have been dealing with

this from a long, long time ago.

7. The Stress Management Centre and Phobia Institute estimates that more than 17 million people are

affected by the fear of this day, and they refuse to leave their homes or get out of bed.

8. All months that begin on a Sunday have a “Friday the 13th”, so it’s not all that uncommon. In fact,

there’s at least one every calendar year.

9. The traditional hangman's noose has 13 twists of the rope. And there are 13 steps to the gallows.

10. Director Alfred Hitchcock, the “Master of Suspense,” was born on Friday the 13th (August 13, 1899)

and so was Butch Cassidy, the notorious American train and bank robber (Friday, April 13, 1866).

11. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would never travel on the 13th day of any months and would never

host a party with 13 guests.

12. The seals on the back of a dollar bill include 13 steps on the pyramid, 13 stars above the eagle's head,

13 war arrows in the eagle's claw and 13 leaves on the olive branch.

13. The superstitious say that if you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the Devil's luck … ick!

Example: Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer… so how many letters does your name

have? Good luck on that one!
