    2) Find a related article and summarize the content

The article that I found is called "Why actors still talk about Charlie Chaplin, and what he

teaches them about not acting funny" According to this article Chaplin did not feelsatisfaction, but relief for his work. For Chaplin the definition of funny was when people

got in or out of trouble. He was accused of being too sentimental in his films. However

there are actors as Cary Grant that believed that it helped to understand the film itself.

Chaplin was so into his acting that every time he was in his character the tramp he

believed it and perfectly acted as one, like for example eating his own shoe. He was not

just imitating a tramp he was a tramp in his films. Charles chaplin has influenced actors

such as Jhonny Depp who found very challenging the scene where Chaplin put the rolls

on the forks to dance. He wasn't competitive with no one else but himself. We cannot

imagine a hilarious person being serious at work, but he took it very seriously and now is

and very important icon of films.

    3) Apply the article to the film screened in class

In my opinion the article does support the Film. It mentions that Chaplin uses

sentimentalism. This is the second film I have watched of Chaplin and it is true that he

uses sentimentalism. Although, it is a silent film there is no need for words to tell if the

scene is sad or not, I felt sad, happy, excited. The well performance of a disciplined man

could had only achieved this like Chaplin did. I was laughing at his pain and that's

exactly what he meant when he said that the definition of humor is when it got someonein or out of trouble. In his films he was constantly getting into trouble and that causes us

    to burst out laughing.

4)Write a critical analysis of the film

I enjoyed the film a great deal. I felt it was not overacted even though it's a slapstick

comedy. It amazes me how it was perfectly edited; even though back then editors did not

have the accessible technology there is today. I understood everything it happen no

words were needed when the tramp felt sad, was hungry, disappointed in Georgia. I

believe that the long shots were well used when trying to show a new a setting. It is very

interesting how he approaches social issues through humor. For example the scene

where he eats his shoe, that showed the scarcity of food for the miners, but the way he

eats it is like eating a finest dish. Although it was a scene that touched an important

point in history it was fun to see how he acted there.

    within the text.

    4) ( ) I have not padded the bibliography. I have used all sources cited in the bibliography in the text of the paper.

    5) ( ) I have cited in the bibliography only the pages I personally read.

    6) ( ) I have used direct quotations only in cases where it could not be stated in another way. I cited the source withinthe paper and in the bibliography.

    7) ( ) I did not so over-use direct quotations that the paper lacks interpretation or originality.

    8) ( ) I checked yes on steps 1-7 and therefore have been fully transparent about the research and ideas used in my
