China, as one of four core system providers recognized by International

Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG), has always actively

involved in activities related to ICG.

We are willing, through the platform of ICG,

to further promote international cooperation with other GNSS providers, as

appropriate, on matters of mutual interest related to civil satellite-based

positioning, navigation, timing and value-added services to enhance compatibility and interoperability of among GNSS systems to maximize the benefits of the use and applications of GNSS to support sustainable

development, providing stable, reliable and qualified satellite navigation services

for global users to serve the world and benefit the mankind.

As a nation with a history and civilization of 5000+ years, China has been

experiencing rapid development.

—China has 22% of the world population and 6.4% of land area

—China has over 70 million vehicles

—China has over 800 million mobile phone users

……

China is a large potential market for

GNSS. Therefore, ICG meeting held in

China will be significant for promoting the

development of GNSS industry.

China has rich experience in organizing world level events. The successful Beijing

2008 Olympics Games , Expo 2010 Shanghai and Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games

have demonstrated to the world that an open China and its 1.3 billion people are

poised to make a contribution in building a peaceful and wonderful world.

Beijing is the capital of China as well as the center of China’s political, educational, cultural life and foreign affairs. Beijing is a well–known historical and

cultural city with a history of over 3000 years and 800 of which as a capital city. Today, Beijing is a large modern metropolis experiencing fast development. ICG-7 meeting held in Beijing, will provide a unique experience to the attendees from all over the world of a magnificent Chinese civilization and the interaction of east and west culture.

Beijing has numerous navigation and aerospace related R&D institutes,

enterprises, universities and museums. It is the city with a concentration of

outstanding science and technology experts in the areas of aerospace and

navigation.

Beijing has witnessed the organization of large-scale events such as

academic conferences, exhibitions in the field of aerospace, aviation, and

satellite navigation, supported by excellent facilities, conference services,

and security.

Weather in BeijingEarly November in Beijing is called the season of Golden Autumn. The average temperature ranges between 14°c and 1°c.

Transportation in Beijing<Subway> Subway in Beijing started operation in 1971. Currently, there are 14 lines of subway in Beijing. You could simply get unlimited transit by 2 Yuan ( RMB) in cash or using a“ Transit Card”.

<Public Transportation>There are about 700 bus and tram lines in Beijing, including 3 dedicated public transportation lines, by which one could almost reach anywhere in Beijing.

<Taxi>Taxi is very popular and cheap in Beijing.

Beijing Capital International Airport ( BCIA), located 32km northeast of central

Beijing, is the main international airport in Beijing. IATA code of BCIA is PEK.

BCIA is one of the main airports for overall passenger volume and

transportation capacity in the world.

Technology and Culture Tour

Events for Technology and Culture Tour will include a visit to satellite

navigation demonstration projects, R&D, universities, enterprises, and also

some famous sights located in Beijing. The most possible routings are as

follows:

Meeting Location

ICG-7 is planned to be held at Beijing International Conference Center which is located at the Asian Games village near north 4th ring road, at the crossroad between north fourth ring road and central road of Beijing.

It is planned to have 1 large conference room with a seating capacity of 150-200 for plenary session and supplier forum;

2 medium sized conference rooms with a seating capacity of 50 each for sub – group meetings;

3 small sized conference rooms with a seating capacity of 30-40 each for discussions during meeting breaks;

1 room which will hold 15 people that can serve as a temporary office or a rest area for UNOOSA Officers.

Wireless internet is available in the center, so are printers, computers, projectors and photo copy machines.

Since its establishment, ICG has played an even more vital role as a platform

of international exchange and cooperation in the area of satellite navigation

due to the joint efforts made by UN Office for Outer Space Affairs and all

countries concerned. China is willing to continue to support sustainable

development of the greater use of GNSS capacities and promote all ICG

related activities.

Under the umbrella of the United Nations ( UN) and Terms of Reference of

ICG, China Satellite Navigation Office will strengthen organization,

coordination and preparation to ensure the successful launch of ICG-7 in

China!
