R-2 Academic Achievement: GRADUATION
All students will meet or exceed rigorousstandards in all academic disciplines.
Monitoring of performance will include milestone assessments:

Interpretation of the Results Policy
There are two methods by which a student may attain a diploma of high school graduation.
Method 1: Satisfy the graduation requirements defined by Board Policy BP 6146.1.
Method 2: Satisfy the graduation requirements defined by Board Policy BP 6146.1 in the manner specified in one’s IEP.
Graduation: The attainment of a diploma of highschool graduation.

Method 1: Satisfy graduation requirements defined by Board Policy 6146.1
SUMMARY OF GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSAccording to Board Policy, a diploma of high school graduation shall be granted to any
student who:1. Completes a total of 230 credits by completing the following courses in grades 9-12:
i. 40 credits of Englishii. 30 credits of Mathematicsiii. 30 credits of Scienceiv. 30 credits of Social Studiesv. 10 credits of World Languagevi. 10 credits of Visual/Performing Artsvii. 20 credits of Physical Education or JROTC[1] viii.60 credits of electives
2. Earns a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.00 in courses that satisfy graduation requirements.
3. Successfully passes the state exit examination in language arts and mathematics. (Education Code 60851, 60859)
4. Completes a senior project/exhibition during his/her 12th grade year of high school. This project shall be a serious research project or exhibition which demonstrates achievement of school-wide learning goals and designated key content standards.

UC/CSU Eligible Graduation Requirements
In addition to the Board graduationrequirements, UC/CSU minimum requirementsinclude:
• An additional year of mathematics
• An additional year of World Language
• No physical education requirement
• A grade of C or better in each required course

Reasonable Progress Indicators
There are two key indicators by which the staff assess graduation rates:
1) NCES Graduation Rate2) Grade 12 Enrollment Graduation Rate
The staff also reports on UC/CSU Eligiblegraduation rates and monitors progress oneach graduation requirement in order to assessprogress toward graduation.

Targets and Strategies
The staff plan to return in fall 2008 to report on
progress in the 2007-08 school year, to establish
targets for the 2008-09 school year, and to describe
strategies initiated by OUSD in an effort to meet the
goal of preparing all students for graduation.
