The probabilistic approaches consider the failure behaviour of network components and analyse the different possible network scenarios. The aim is to meet with the quality level imposed by the Regulators, whilst optimizing the investment levels.

In practice the objective is to fully exploit the capacity of network components on account of the employment of new technologies (particularly remote control, improved reliability of components, etc.) allowing to reduce the amount of non delivered energy in case of failure.
