Lighting can be categorised into four types. Explore each link to learn more about each type

Ambient lighting (or general lighting) is seen as the starting point for lighting a space or a room. It makes up the "base" amount of light in a room. It is the best way to light a space. Ambient light can come from down lights mounted in the ceiling,  ceiling lights in the surface of the ceiling, or table and floor lamps. These types of fixtures diffuse light over a large area.

Accent lighting - considered as "layers of light" when lighting a space; accent lighting is directional light aimed at an object or feature in a space. It is a good way to make something stand out in the space. Flood lights, spot lights, track lights. Shining a light at a painting is a good example.

Task Lighting - It is a way to provide more light on a specific area to perform a task that requires more light than the ambient fixtures can give. Task lighting fixtures try to illuminate the entire space. Desk lamps, ceiling pendant fixtures, and appliance lights

are all good examples of task lighting fixtures.

Decorative lighting - Chandeliers, light strips, pendants, sconces and even candles are all examples of light fixtures that draw attention to themselves and add character to the room being lighted

In this space write down some additional information about these types lighting. You will need to use the computer and research these 4 types of lighting.

What’s your level? Designing and Communicating ideas My level

Produce at least one design with labelled sketches 3

Identify alternative ideas using labelled sketches, include colour. Be aware of constraints. 4

Think of ideas and discuss. Use drawings and models to communicate ideas. Identify suitable materials.

5

Use models and drawings to explore ideas. Test them. Discuss with users and develop criteria 6

Produce models, detailed 3D diagrams to explore, test and develop designs. 7

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Are you pleased with your work?. If you were going to do this project again what would you change to improve what you have done. Would you change the design / materials used?. Remember to explain why!.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Brainstorm below the tools / materials/ machinery you have used during this project

Extension: Draw a picture of something interesting you did today.

What’s your level? Planning and organisation. Level

I have followed a plan to make my design. 3

Produce clear step-by-step plans. 4

Work from own detailed plan and modify when needed. 5

Check your progress as you move forward. Make modifications from what you find out to improve quality. 6

Produce a plan that predicts time needed to make the product. 7

List three things you found difficult with your work and how you overcame your problems
