Izzy, Jude, Jaz and Pete have one thing in common… they love getting together to play music and write songs. They meet up every weekend in Timperley near Manchester.

Jaz and Pete are twins. They both write the lyrics to the songs but Jaz (short for Jasper) is the real musician so he usually composes the melodies. As for Pete, he’s the crazy guitarist and lead vocalist a real showman! Izzy (short for Isabelle) is the drummer and percussionist, Jude plays the bass guitar and Jaz plays the keyboards.

They all go to the same local school but they aren’t in the same year. Izzy and Jude

are both 14 so they’re in year 10 but their friends Pete and Jaz are a year older so they’re in year 11.

Their group is called Garage Groove because they practice in… Pete’s dad’s garage at the bottom of his garden! The band is very popular locally. They often do concerts at the local youth centre and occasionally they are invited to perform at community shows.

They love other Manchester bands such as Oasis or Happy Mondays but they also admire American rock groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

La musique de l’anglais

A class Écoute et souligne les mots importants dans ces phrases.

1 It’s so great this song, I love it! 2 I hate this music, it’s too loud!

Pour mieux faire ressortir le sens que l’on veut donner à un énoncé, on peut mettre en relief les mots importants en faisant porter sur eux l’accent de phrase.

B class Écoute et répète. Puis souligne les mots accentués.

1 Tom thinks classical music is so boring. 2 I always feel sad when I listen to violins!

L’intonation des questions

A class Dessine une flèche pour indiquer si l’intonation est montante ou descendante.

1 What music do you like? 2 Do you like rap music? 3 Who is your favourite singer?

L’intonation des questions auxquelles on répond par yes ou no, est...

descendante. montante.

Celle des questions qui commencent par un pronom interrogatif en WH- est…

descendante. montante.

B class Écoute puis répète ce poème:

Our teacher sings The Beatles. She must know every song.We ask her please to stopbut she just sings, “It Won’t Be Long”.

And then she croons like Elvis. She clearly thinks it ’s cool. And if we beg her not toshe just belts out, “Don’t be Cruel”.

She then does Michael Jackson. It drives us nearly mad.We have to cover up our earsbecause she’s singing, “Bad”.

She winds up with The Wigglesor else a Barney song, and, even worse, she tells us allthat we should sing along.

It ’s all my fault she does this.I feel like such a fool.I wish I’d never broughtmy karaoke box to school.
