The definitions (from the syllabus) - learn these!
Movement: An action by an organism or part of an organism causing a change of position or place (can be fast or slow as in plants).
Respiration: The chemical reactions that break down nutrient molecules in living cells to release energy
Sensitivity: The ability to detect or sense changes in the environment(stimuli) and to make responses
Growth: A permanent increase in size and dry mass by an increase in cellnumber or cell size or both
Reproduction: The processes that make more of the same kind oforganism
Excretion: Removal from organisms of toxic materials, the waste products of metabolism (chemical reactions in cells including respiration) and substances inexcess of requirements
Nutrition: Taking in of nutrients which are organic substances and mineral ions, containing raw materials or energyfor growth and tissue repair, absorbing and assimilating them

3 This diagram shows a cheek cell. Fill in the labels a) to c) to show the names of the different partsof the cell and the jobs they do. Choose words and phrases from the box.

1 Look at the diagrams below. Write the name of the life process under each picture. One has been done for you.
There are 7 life processes or characteristics of living things. They are listed in the box.
