Crisis in Martin County Crisis in Martin County In January 2011, 85% of TD
funding was consumed by dialysis members
Only 15% was available to the remaining TD population
TD members complained to LCB-TD members, Commissioners, MPO, and MTM about lack of transportation
TD Steering CommitteeTD Steering CommitteeMembers: MTM, FDOT,MPO and SFCS The committee developed a list
of alternatives to increase capacity: Partner with nursing homes
with available transportation Transition dialysis
members to public transit Work with dialysis center Implement a dialysis carpool program Reach out to family members
None of these initiatives were successful
ActionAction Removed several dialysis members from
transportation on July 1, 2011 The LCB-TD ruled that only 50% of TD funding
can be used for recurring or dialysis transportation
Nine dialysis members were removed from transportation and placed on a “Wait List”
This action sent a strong message to the community that they needed to partner with us and become part of the solution
