A comprehensive 1 day Intensive

Hands-on Phlebotomy training course

In just 1 day you can learn various phlebotomy protocols and will be able to properly draw blood from your patients for harvesting PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), CGF (Concentrated Growth Factors) and PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin). During this course, you will be shown how to draw blood, known as a “stick.” You will practice your sticking skills in the classroom on faculty, staff and fellow students so you are prepared and confident before you begin your phlebotomy.

The phlebotomist program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training to help you develop the highly technical skill of intravenous blood withdrawal. Coursework may include :

• Regulations governing phlebotomy for dentists

(Dos and Don’ts to protect yourself)

• Medical terminology

• Anatomy and physiology

• Diseases of the human body

• Insurance policies and consent forms

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to : • Demonstrate the proper procedure for venipuncture according to the standards as set forth. • Identify the acceptable veins for venipuncture; • Locate structures in the antecubital area that, if pierced, can cause injury to the patient; • Identify practices that protect against accidental needlesticks; • Avoid errors in collection that can alter results.

• Needle Size - Shafts of needles - Needle gauge - Butterfly needles - Syringes

• Tying On Tourniquet - Watch Tourniquet Tying Video - Tying Tourniquet on partners must be signed off (10-15min)

• Collection Site Problems - Scarring - Edema - IV’s - Mastectomy

• Poor Collection Technique - Specimen contamination - Hemolysis - Clotted sample

• Hard Sticks - Back of hand blood draw - Will practice drawing on dummy hands (10-20 min / will need to be signed off)

• Accidental needle stick Protocol

• How to handle a patient that faints

• Safety practices to prevent spread of infection

• Video on proper venipuncture technique (10 min)

• Successful 5 veinpuncture sticks on partner and 5 back of hand – Class dismissed

• Safety Engineering Controls - How to dispose of needles - Proper needle usage

• Inserting Needle - Anchoring vein - Bevel up - 15-30 degree angle

Course Director Dr. Kayvon Javid, DDS

Dr. Kayvon Javid graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, he completed two years of research in Neurobiology through the Hedco Neurobiology Department. From there, he went to the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry, graduating amongst the top ten students. Given his success, he was offered for a teaching position in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program, where he exceeded all expectations. He then held the necessary experience to open his family operated business, Dr. Smile Dental Group. His ambition and skillset have resulted in professional recognition from dentistry programs nationwide. He has grown a beautiful reputation for himself, his family, and his business, through his strong work ethic. Dr. Kayvon Javid proudly holds the masters at the International Congress of Oral Implantologist (ICOI) and is also a Diplomate. He is a part of elite Fellowships such as the California Implant Institute and the ICOI. He constantly strives to be the best version of himself, both professionally and personally. Given that mindset, he has been a part of these Fellowships to continue to learn and stay on top of all innovative and growing procedures within dentistry. He continues to master his trade as technology allows dentistry to reach new levels of capability. Dr. Kayvon Javid also knows that learning is accelerated by teaching. Given this philosophy, has accepted the position as Clinical Instructor for Implant Team Seminars, The New York Implant Institute and Institute of Mega Implant. Dr. Kayvon Javid has received many awards from Congress. Several of these awards are in consideration of his ongoing dedication to providing free services and donating funds to disadvantaged children. He has also been recognized by Congress for his involvement in the Increasing Veteran Employment in Torrance program. His impact on the community, and specifically the less fortunate, has been astonishing. Dr. Kayvon Javid also received his Phlebotomy certificate, CPT1. He is currently directing nationwide programs on Venous Blood Draw training and lectures to dental professionals.
