OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH

The major objective of this research is to characterize and quantify the impacts of water infrastructure development on the hydrology and water resources of the Omo-Gibe River Basin.

Main objective

2

To characterize and quantify natural, current and future flow regime in the Basin.

To detect long-term monotonic trends and step/abrupt changes in stream flow resulting from ongoing infrastructure development.

To identify different downstream major demands in the Lower Omo River Basin below the weir proposed to large scale commercial farms and to allocate water for identified major demands.

To propose suitable operating flow regimes.
