Ecology of littoral Larval Dipterans (Arthropoda: Insecta) of the Mangrove

ecosystem of Sundarban, India. (Supervisor: Professor Amalesh Choudhury)

Research and Teaching Experience:

1) 2001 - Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia 30602, USA, worked on the

modeling of planktonic system of cold marine environment in association with Skidaway Institute of

Oceanography, Savanah, Georgia and took classes on the aspect of system ecology at postgraduate

level in Institute of Ecology (Worked with Prof. Eugene.P. Odum, Prof. Barnard. C. Patten, Prof.

Peter. Varity and Prof. Robert. E. Ulanowicz)

2) 2001 (March) - Joined and continuing as Reader (Associate Professor) in the dept. of Zoology,

Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan 731235, teaching basic and advanced ecology in graduate

and postgraduate levels and also research assignment on model ecology particularly the theoretical

aspects and simulation of Sundarban mangrove ecosystem and Hooghly Matla estuarine complex.

Collected data on mangrove litterfall and its subsiquent decoposition, data of both phytoplankton

and zooplankton and also benthic organisms and some pelagic fishes.

3) 1999 – 2000 - Section of Environmental Chemistry, Royal Danish School of Pharmacy,

Copenhagen, Denmark, undertook parameter estimation by optimizing exergy in some models of

Danish lakes. (Worked with Prof. Sven Erik Jorgensen)

4) 1996 - 1998 - Department of Theoretical Biology, Czech Academy of Science, University of

South Bohemia, Czech Republic, undertook simulation modeling of aquatic food chain, food webs

and complex biological interactions of lake and estuarine environments by using different computer

software such as STELLA, SIGMAPLOT, MATHEMATICA, MATLAB and ECOPATH etc.

(Worked with Prof. Milan Straskraba)

5) 1998 – Assistant Professor (Adjunct faculty) Department of Biology, University of South

Bohemia (Jhioceska Univerzita), Czech Republic, subject taught - Modeling and simulation in

ecology.

6) 1989 – 1995 at the department of Marine Science, Calcutta University, India. and partly at the

department of Mathematics, Jadavpur University, Calcutta, undertook studies on analytical aspects

of deterministic modeling of the food chains and food webs of mangrove and estuarine and marine

ecosystem, particularly on the aspects of uniform persistence, local and global stability, diffusion

and time lag of detritus and grazing food chains of mangrove ecosystem and also undertook network

analysis on Benthic food web of Sundarbans Mangrove ecosystem using software NETWORK,

STRUCTURE, ENVIRON.

7) 1982 - 1988 at the Department of Marine Science, Calcutta University, India, undertook studies

on population and community ecology of Benthic and pelagic organisms of Sundarban Mangrove

ecosystem and estuarine and coastal marine ecosystem, India.

Research areas of interest:

1) Process based modeling on mangrove and estuarine system particularly on nitrogen and carbon

cycling, grazing and detritus food chains

2) Static modeling particularly the network analysis, Dynamic modeling, and Structural dynamic

modeling of any aquatic and mangrove ecosystems.

3) Analytical solution of theoretical model.

4) Integrated Ecosystem theory and optimization of ecological goal function for assessing the

organization of the ecosystem.

5) Methodology for automatic parameter calibration.

1) Interested in any aspect of ecology particularly on population, community and ecosystem ecology

in graduate and postgraduate level.

2) Also interested in any advanced aspect of ecology particularly model and system ecology and

ecological complexity in graduate and postgraduate levels and beyond.
