    Site Analysis

Analysis is the process ofdetermining exactly what is needed

    before we start building anything.

    Site-wide analysis consists of the

thinking and planning that goes into

a site before a single page is designedor constructed.

    6 major tasks of site-wide

    analysis:

    1. Clarify the organizations goals for the

    site.

    2. Identify the sites target audience

    3. Identify visitor goals.

    4. Determine site constraints.

    5. Determine site content.

    6.Analyze site architecture.

    1. Clarify the Organizations

    Goals

We need to form a clear picture of

the organization goals for the site.

What is the sites mission, purpose,

    objectives?

What will the scope of the site be?

    for a standard business application

    A User Interface(the screen

    display that accepts user input

    and displays system output) is

    needed for any computer system

that communicates with people.Every time we visit a web site, we

are interacting with that sites user

    interface, also called the front-Ca

    Serving as the user Interface

Graphic User Interface, orGUI.The interface is built in to the

    application software that actually

    processes transactions, and is

    usually hand-built by the

    programmers along with the rest

    of the application.

    Serving as the user Interface

A Browser User Interface, orBUI,communicates with the user

    through the browser while the

    back-endbusiness application

    (business logic on the server)

    uses standard programming

languages like Java, C++, or even

    COBOL to interact with the

    underlying databases.Ca

    Serving as the user Interface

The significance of a BUI is that abusiness application not typically

delivered through the web can still

use a browser to provide its user

    interface.

as possible. Researching products or services for

future purchase, either online or at a

    retail store.

Obtaining service for a product that he

    Creating Content

Web designers dont usually have to

provide the content for a site.

Data-driven - records from the database

comprise the majority of the content.

(such as Amazon with its productdatabase)

    Informational - subject matter experts

(SMEs) most likely provide the content, just as physicians provide the content

    for a site like WebMD.com.

    Marketing - the organizations

    6. Analyze Site Architecture

    The organization andnavigation of information

    within a web site.

Site architecture is theglue that holds the entire

    site together.

It is a fuzzy blend of

    information architecture

    and interaction design.6majo

    6. Analyze Site Architecture

    It must be scalable andflexible.

It is how the mind views

the information, whilevisual design is how the

    eye sees it.

    Analyze Site Architecture

    It involves:

The content, or the fragments of

    information, buried in the site.

    The relationship of individual fragments

to one another; that is, the logical

    structure that ties those fragments

together in a way that intuitively makessense to visitors.

The navigation that visitors use to

    traverse the logical structure.

    Information Architecture

Refers to the organization, labeling, and presentation of data in any

    context.

    The whole point of information

architecture is to managecomplexity, which means to render

it usable by making its structure

    visible.
