Happy Spring! Even though the weather seems to be having difficulty making up its mind, there are signs all around that winter is finally over. We had a sneak peek of spring earlier in February at the Huntsville Botanical Garden when we hosted Dr. Dike Drummond for our “Heart the Healer” event. We were delighted that all 200 spots were claimed- we even had a waiting list! The Wellness Committee has been gratified by the positive responses we’ve received from those who attended. Many thanks to our generous sponsors who made it possible: Huntsville Hospital, ProAssurance, the Madison County Medical Alliance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, ServisFirst Bank, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Fyzical Therapy and Balance Centers, and Crestwood Medical Center. We enjoyed a delicious meal and the workshop presented by “The Happy MD”. The attendees received a complimentary copy of his book Stop Physician
Burnout: What to Do When Working Harder Isn’t Working. He shared actionable advice designed to help physicians get work done earlier, get home sooner and be more present once there. We also introduced “PRN - the Physicians Resource Network” and shared details of upcoming MCMS member benefits which will include complimentary anonymous counseling sessions courtesy of the Medical Society. We are hopeful that this service will be only one aspect of a complete wellness initiative that prioritizes the health and happiness of our physicians. Studies show this ultimately results in healthier, happier patients, as well. In other news, our Annual Spring Fling event at Top Golf was a great time for physician families to have a chance to unwind and visit while enjoying the new facility courtesy of our presenting sponsor, the Frank Williams Dealership. We look forward to our next social event with the Medical Alliance, On Call! This is our annual August event which welcomes new physicians to the community. Make plans now to attend. Lastly, the annual session of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama took place on April 13 and 14th. Physicians from around our state convened to discuss the business and politics of medicine and how to protect patients and each other. We are stronger together. If you haven’t already, join us!

Why MCMS?I am very excited to be the new Membership Coordinator for the Madison County Medical Society and to be a part of something that gives back to our medical community. I have been looking for the right position that would allow me to use both my degree as well as my passion to help advocate health education in the Huntsville area. What I hope to accomplish here?I am hoping to bring new ideas with my enthusiastic personality to the Membership Coordinator position that allows for even more ways to grow. Also, I hope to help the society stay up to date on current health concerns and find new ways to outreach to all demographics in the community.Who or what has had the most influence on your professional career? My parents have both played important roles in influencing my career. My mother is a caring and compassionate teacher who has taught me to have patience in every endeavor. My father is a human resources manager and labor negotiator and I have learned from him to always listen more than you speak, as well as to always look at all sides of a problem and to not make decisions based on emotions.Tell us about yourself-anything you’d like to share.I have moved six times in my life. I feel this has helped me be a very adaptable person towards change. I enjoy the outdoors so much that I have hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon four times. In high school I was a two-time state soccer champion. Another fun fact about me is that I can never find my name spelled correctly on anything - thanks mom and dad!

Madison County physicians had another incredible year in Washington, DC at the Medical Association of the State of Alabama’s Governmental Affairs meeting. In addition to a busy schedule coordinated by the state, MCMS doctors and their families had fun touring FBI Headquarters, visiting the Capitol and climbing to the Capitol Dome with Martha Brooks, and exploring the White House. ProAssurance treated our physicians to a superb dinner at Capitol Grille. Most of all, our doctors had the opportunity to learn about the importance of advocating for their profession from speakers including Stuart Rothenberg, and the opportunity to do so with elected officials including Congressmen Mo Brooks and Robert Aderholt; and Senators Bill Cassidy (M.D.), Richard Shelby and Doug Jones.

Burnout Proof LIVE
We had an incredible time at our Burnout Proof LIVE event! Our speaker, Dr. Drummond, shared some eye-opening truths about burnout and
practical ways to combat against it in your everyday life. It was a great way to kickoff our year focused on physician wellness.

When you practice medicine, you’re practicing one-on-one service. At ServisFirst we applied that same idea to our Private Banking Accounts. So in addition to the competitive interest rates on accounts and loans, our Private Banking also comes with a banker dedicated to your needs. We thought you could appreciate that.
The type of service you provide is the type of service we’re offering.

Huntsville’s newest family attraction Top Golf was the location for our Spring Fling event this year. A little birdie told me that everyone was up to par with their golfing skills for this fun event with family and colleagues! The cookies were a huge hit and the company was even better making for a perfect Sunday afternoon! I would say that this year’s Spring Fling was a hole in one!
Special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor Frank Williams and his team from the Frank Williams Dealership.
