Unapplied marking may be stored for a period of up to one year. They must be stored flat or wrapped on a core with at least a 5 inch diameter. The markings must be stored in a clean area, free from excessive moisture and direct sunlight, with ambient temperatures of 100 degrees or less.

An application surface that has been washed and dried, solvent wiped and dried can still provide poor adhesion in the area of rivets and seams due to liquid retention caused by capillary action. This problem can be overcome by allowing a cleaned vehicle to sit overnight prior to application of markings, or by the use of a heat gun to dry out retained liquid. Any chalked paint residue must be removed in cleaning. Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be considered contaminated and must be cleaned prior to application of film or sheeting.

The recommended procedure is as follows:

1. Paint system must be properly cured prior to application of films and sheeting. Under cured paint can cause bubbling of the graphic. Markings will not adhere to chalked paint. Chalking must be removed by physical abrasion.

2. Wash the surface with a synthetic, free-rinsing detergent. Avoid washing the surface with a soap containing creams or lotions. Allow to dry.

3. Saturate clean paper towel with Solvent Cleaner 3919S and wipe the substrate surface dry. Many cleaners and solvents cannot be used effectively. For example, alcohol evaporates too rapidly and effective cleaning does not take place.

4. Dry the surface with a lint-free paper towel before the solvent evaporates.

Surface Preparation

The markings can be applied when air and application surface temperatures are above the minimum specified in the following table. Surfaces may be heated in order to raise the surface temperature above the minimum specified in the following table. This may be accomplished by portable heater, heat lamps, hot water or steam. If hot water or steam is used, the surface must be thoroughly dry before application.

Center Hinge Method

1. Tape marking into position with small pieces of masking tape.

2. Apply 1" or 2" tape hinge through center of marking, either vertically or horizontally. NOTE: It is recommended that the masking tape be placed perpendicular to the long dimension of the marking.

4. Remove tape hinge.

3. Fold half of marking back over hinge, peel liner off marking to tape hinge, cut liner along hinge and discard.

5. Fold over the other half of marking, remove liner and apply as in steps outlined.

Split Liner Method

1. Place marking face down on a flat surface. Peal back and cut off liner approximately 1/3 from one edge.

4. Remove the liner and apply the marking using the same technique as the center hinge method.

3. Apply marking along line of exposed adhesive. This will now act as a hinge.

1. Remove liner, then position legend on applicationsurface placing top corners of prespacing tape onregistry marks.

Large Prespaced Markings

1. Align legend on application surface and tape into position using top horizontal hinge method. CAUTION: When applying prespaced letters and numbers, the entire prespacing tape must be squeegeed onto surface to avoid wrinkles and misalignment of the marking beneath.

2. Cut between each letter or number so that each is independently hinged from top. Remove liner, then squeegee each letter or number into place using firm pressure.

PreparationRemove all existing decals and thoroughly clean all surfaces. Clean any painted skirts and bonnets. Sand all edges, copy and scratches from the surface. Sand any rusted areas and prime surface prior to decal application. Wipe surfaces with dry towel and then apply vinyl.

Kit Components

ApplicationFor Universal Pump Skirt, apply solid film and trim to fit. Apply Clark logos to the skirts as illustrated. For the Valance, apply film on 4 sides as shown. Then apply pump numbers, product ID's, octane decals, credit card decals, and regulatory decals as illustrated.

Notes on Dispenser Graphics• Graphics are available for all dispenser types• Choose appropriate octane and product decals for site specific requirements. You will typically use two product ID's and two of each of the required octane decals per dispenser.• Place Credit Card decal, AVS decal and Shut Off decal near the price readout of the dispensers.• Use 4.8" Clark Logos unless space is limited, then use smaller Logos (see page 8.2 for detail).* Number sets to be ordered as a separate item.
