How do we do this?In April 2010 the Government introduced the Feed-in Tariff scheme which requires energy suppliers to pay for every kilowatt of electricity generated using renewable technologies such as solar PV.

Over the 25 year life expectancy of our systems, these payments will cover our costs to supply and maintain your free solar installation.

In other words, we collect the payments and you get free electricity for 25 years. And after this the system is yours to keep.

Do I need planning permission?In England and Scotland you don’t need planning permission for

most home solar electricity systems, as long as they’re below a certain

size and do not protrude more than 20cm from your roof – but you should

check with your local planning officer if your home is a listed building, in

a conservation area or in a World Heritage Site. You should also check

if your building is subject to any covenants. We can help you with this.

In Wales and Northern Ireland you still need to get planning permission

before installing a solar electricity system – though the legislation may soon

change. To find out how to apply for permission, contact your local authority.

n Is your property Listed, in a conservation area, part of a World Heritage Site or subject to any covenants that might prevent you from installing solar PV?

n Next we’ll come around and install your system. We’ll help you to keep your neighbours informed and take every step to ensure your system is installed as quickly and easily as possible.

Receive guaranteed income:Government legislation guarantees this index linked, tax-free income for the next 25 years.

Sell electricity back to the grid:One of the significant benefits of installing solar in the UK before 31st March 2012 means you will be

able to sell the electricity you make back to the grid under the government’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT), at

the maximum rate. For the average home this should amount to an annual tax-free income of £1,000*

or when you can’t use it and someone else can – you could make a bit of money.

Cut your energy costs:Sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your energy costs will be significantly less.

A 3 kW PV system will typically produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year†.

Receive free electricity:Alternatively you could choose not to own the installation. We would install a system free of

charge and you would get to use all the electricity it produces – again, this is typically around 40%

of your needs† – every year for 25 years or while you still own the property.

Reduce your carbon footprint:Solar electricity is a green, renewable energy that doesn’t release harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) or

other pollutants. A typical domestic PV system can save around 1200 kg of CO2 per year – so over

its life that’s approximately 30 tonnes!

* Based on a 3 kW system installed on a south facing, 45 degree roof with little or no shading and annual solar radiation of 989 kWh/year.

As an example, a typical domestic solar electricity system with an installation size of 3 kW could earn around:n £1,000 per year from the Generation Tariffn £36 per year from the Export Tariffn £140 per year reduction in current electricity bills.

This gives a total saving of around £1,200* per year.* Based on a 3 kW system installed on a south facing, 45 degree roof with little or no shading and annual

solar radiation of 989 kWh/year. This assumes 50% of the electricity generated is exported. The figure may vary depending on how much is exported.

by a solar PV installation varies with the
