    LARA PROMOTED TO AA : INF Jordy Lara was promoted to AA Jackson on July 27. At the time of his promotion, Lara had a 17-game hitstreak, batting .479 (34x71) with 21 runs scored, 8 doubles, 8 home runs, 24 RBI and 6 walks. He also hit safely in 24 of his final 26games, batting .443 (47x107) with 27 runs scored, 11 doubles, 10 home runs, 29 RBI, 10 walks and 1 stolen base. Overall he hit .353(141x399) with 77 runs scored, 26 doubles, 5 triples, 22 home runs, 80 RBI, 38 walks and 1 stolen base in 102 games with the Mavericks.

    As of July 28, Lara led the California League in hits (141) and total bases (243), while also ranking 2nd in average (.353), T2nd in RBI (80),3rd in slugging percentage (.609), T3rd in home runs (22), runs scored (77) and extra-base hits, T4th in games (102), 6th in on-basepercentage (.413) and 8th in doubles. Lara was named California League Player of the week three times: April 21-27, July 14-20 & July21-27.

    COACHING STAFF : After managing High Desert in 2013, James Horner will take over as manager of the Mariners affiliate in theSouthern League, the Jackson Generals. Pimentel (1x2, R, GS HR, 4 RBI, BB)hit a grand slam home run with 2 outs as part of a 6-run 5th inning.     CALIFORNIA LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK : INF Jordy Lara was named California League Player of the Week, July 21-27. It is his3rd California League Player of the Weeks honors this year and 2nd in back-to-back weeks. He was also named Player of the Week: April21-27 and July 14-20. During the week, Lara hit safely in all 5 games he appeared, batting .500 (11x22) with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4home runs, 9 RBI and 2 walks. He led the league with 4 home runs, while ranking 3rd with 9 RBI. Lara was promoted to AA Jackson onSunday, July 27.

    COACHING STAFF : The Mariners California League affiliate, the High Desert Mavericks, will be managed by Eddie Menchaca , who spenthe previous 3 seasons with Clinton. He enters his 6th season in the Mariners organization, including 4 as manager. Menchaca has led hissquad to the postseason in each of the last 4 seasons, accumulating a 238-243 (.495) record. Pitching coach Andrew Lorraine enters his1st season with High Desert after spending the last 2 seasons with Clinton. Hitting coach Max Venable begins his 1st season as coach inthe Mariners organization. Venable appeared parts of 12 seasons in the Major Leagues as an outfielder, including stints with the Giants(1979-83), the Expos (1984), the Reds (1985-87), and the Angels (1989-91).     The Arizona Fall League has announced organization and staff (managers, pitching coaches, hitting coaches, athletic trainers)assignments for the 2014 Arizona Fall League season that begins Tuesday, October 7. Regarded throughout professional baseball as thefinishing school for top prospects since its inception in 1992, the 6-team league features top prospects from every organization in MajorLeague Baseball. The league plays 3 games per day 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday) in 5 Cactus League stadiums. This year, theleague adds the new Cubs Park in Mesa as a venue, joining returning sites Camelback Ranch-Glendale, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick,Scottsdale Stadium and Surprise Stadium (two teams).
