Compared to Wednesday’s Stock Show Special: Steer calves weighing under 700 pounds traded mostly 5.00 to 6.00 lower, with instances of 8.00 lower calves weighing between 550 and 600 pounds. Yearling type steers weighing over 700 pounds traded 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Heifers traded mostly 3.00 to 6.00 where comparable sales were noted.

Wednesday, July 9, 2014Over 300 head of slaughter cattle were sold today. The top 8 bulls bringing $140.50-143.50/cwt. Beef cows averaged $1-2 higher than last week with heavy demand for lean cows. Fat beef cows ranged from $117.00-123.50. Lean beef cows were again strong, ranging from 119.00-123.50. Fat Holsteins averaged 111.50-118.50, with lean Holstein cows ranging $106.00-124.50. A load of very nice lean, choice quality cows were a highlight of the Holstein slaughter sale.
