Grace and peace to youin the Name of our Lordand Savior, Jesus Christ!

Ive been greeting congregations with thesewords throughout the life of

my ministry, and now Igreet you with them. Graceand peace: two dynamicblessings given to us by aloving God through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Grace and peace:operating in us and throughus by the power of the HolySpirit. Grace and peace:meant to be hallmarks of our lives together, andhallmarks of our witness aswe pour out our lives, inlove, for the sake of theworld.

In the Name of our Lordand Savior, Jesus Christ. In our storied past, familiestraveling through foreignlands when stopped (andthreatened) by guards, officials, or even robbers

would invoke the name of their King or Queen, Ladyor Lord, or other person of power and customarily beallowed to continue along their way. We do not live

our lives with checkpoints,or under fear of being stopped when we travelabout the country, butisnt it wonderful to knowthat in the Name of...means under the powerand protection of JesusChrist, the One whoseName is above all names, through whom all thingswere made, in whom, bywhom and through whomwe live and move andhave our being?

Please receive thestrength and promise, thebeauty and power, thewonder and joy of thisblessing each and everyweek; we are not alone aswe journey with Christtogether in the yearahead; rather, we are on a

mission together todiscover what God is up toin our midst, and help!

I was born into aparsonage family. MyMom and Dad grew up on

visit. He came upon alame man, had

compassion on him,and healed his leg.

Further down the road,Our Lord came upon a

    blind man, hadcompassion on him,

    and healed him.

A little further down theroad, Jesus came upon

a man sitting on thecurb sobbing his heartout. Jesus asked himwhat was wrong. The

man cried out in agony,"I'm a pastor!"

Jesus sat down besidehim, put his arm around
