In order to build the Kin-dom of God,we come to offer our own God-given gifts.

In order to plant seeds that will be fruitful and multiply,

we come caring for one another, giving and receiving in turn.

In order to wait patiently as God uses what we have to offer andmultiplies it exponentially,

we come together to listen intently to where God is leading us.

In order to remember what a treasure this life is,

we take time to look for Christ in each other and in this world.

We are now in the Season afterPentecost, what we often referto as Ordinary Time and sowe enter into our theme:Tending the Garden of YourSoul, recognizing that most ofour tending needs to be during

those ordinary times. We livemost of our lives in ordinarytime, dont we? And yet themiracle of our lives is anythingbut ordinary. It is in our everyday living that we practiceloving our neighbors, ourselves, and our God. How do you tendto your soul? How is your

    garden growing?

Praise God, the source of all our gifts;Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts!

Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit, Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Jesus put before them a parable:The kingdom of heaven is like a

mustard seed that someone tookand sowed in the field; it is thesmallest of all the seeds, but whenit has grown it is the greatest ofshrubs and becomes a tree, sothat the birds of the air come andmake nests in its branches.

He told them another parable:The kingdom of heaven is likeyeast that a woman took andmixed in with three measures of

flour until all of it was leavened.

The kingdom of heaven is liketreasure hidden in a field, which

someone found and hid; then inhis joy he goes and sells all that

he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like amerchant in search of fine pearls;on finding one pearl of greatvalue, he went and sold all thathe had and bought it.

Have you understood all this? They answered, Yes. And he saidto them, Therefore every scribewho has been trained for thekingdom of heaven is like the

master of a household who bringsout of his treasure what is newand what is old.

A Welcoming Way of Communion at 9:30 AMWe celebrate that the tradition of the church has deep roots in the life of the Festival (9:30 amworship service when we celebrate Communion. In the past an usher has released thecongregation to proceed to the table. Starting in August we will invite people to come to thetable to receive communion whenever they are ready. There will be no usher to release odirect you. The main reason we are making this change is for the sake of being welcomingWhile we, in the United Methodist Church, practice that all people are welcome to receivethe sacrament if they wish to experience the grace of God, many other churches do not. Bywelcoming all people to come as they desire rather than being officially released, oupractice of coming to the table will reflect our theology of welcoming. It may take a fewmonths for us to get used to this way of doing things, but we know that you will behospitable to one another during this time of transition, helping one another out and carryingon the tradition of being an extremely welcoming and gracious community of faith.
