DefinitionsExternal obstacle – circumstances that exist
outside of you that create a barrier in your path.
Internal obstacle – circumstances existing inside of you, often in the form of self-judgment, fear-based thinking or a belief that limits your sense of possibility.
Ways to identify an obstacleYou feel stuck.
Your perspective is limiting you.
You’re being called to act and you can’t or don’t want to.
The four gifts1. The gift of questioning
2. The gift of faith
3. The gift of perspective
4. The gift of fear
Quote by M. Scott Peck“The truth is that our finest moments are most
likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.”
A problem can open into a path Remove judgment that the situation should
be different than it is.Notice how we’re resisting the problem itself.Look for the opportunities in it.Examine the problem more closely for
messages, signs or insights.Listen to our intuition.
For a new perspective, ask What do I need to allow or accept? In which parts of my life do I need to stand
up for myself? What’s really going on?What do I want from this situation? What can I learn from it?What role is negative self-talk playing?
The benefits of being stuckForces you to step back and reflect on what
you really want.
Gives you time and space to let an underlying issue emerge.
Lets you pause and refocus on any fears.
Lets you rest and recharge.
How to overcome being stuckListen to what you really want.Identify what kind of help you need, if any.Ask yourself “Am I bored? Am I scared? Am I
just tired?”Ask yourself what you need right now, in this
moment.Evaluate if there’s anything in your life
you’ve been avoiding, no matter how small.
