Creation of CIFs server

1. Open Sharing->CIFS

2. Select the CIFS servers tab. Press the Create button.

3. Explain that it takes 30 seconds to create a CIFS server in Celerra Manager, compare this to the build of a VM or even the build of a physical file server. Show how each CIFS server is tied to an interface. Fill in fields with the following information: Server Type Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows 2008; Windows 2000 Computer Name Celerra;NetBIOS Name Celerra;

Domain finland.world;

Join the domain put tick;

Domain Admin User Name emcadmin;

Domain Admin Password d3m04emc;Organizational Unit leave default;

Interfaces put tick in front of the 192.168.0.8.

Press OK to create CIFS server.

4. After creation you can see newly created CIFs server at the servers list.

Creation of CIFs shareNOTE: Before the share creation, please make sure that Demo_FS file system is created. If no, follow 5 - Unisphere File system and NFS script to create it.1. In competitive situations where EMC has been described as complicated for the customer, use the share wizard to create a new share. Click Share Wizard. This Wizard shows just how easy it is to configure the system, if there is no file system available you can simply create one, if there is no CIFS server available there is an option to create one.NOTE: While you are walking through the Wizard, please pay attention on all available options.

2. On the Select CIFS Share Location select By selecting a file system first and press Next.

3. On the Select Data Mover screen select server_2 and press Next.

4. On the Select / Create File System screen select Demo_FS file system and press Next.

5. On the Select / Create CIFS Servers select CELERRA server which was created earlier and press Next.

6. On the Enter CIFS Share screen enter Demo_CIFS in the Enter CIFS Share Name field and press Next.

7. Press Finish on the Overview / Results screen. After completion press Close.

8. Now you can see your share under Shares tab.

CIFs and NFS sharing in VMware environment1. Map CIFs share to the Windows server. Minimize Unisphere window, right click on Computer icon and select Map Network Drive .

2. On the Map Network Drive Screen select Z: drive and enter \\celerra\Demo_CIFS as a folder. After that press Finish.

3. After mapping of the drive, window with share content will be opened. Here you can see RHEL 5.3 clone folder with virtual machine which was created earlier. You can see it because this file system shared via NFS and CIFs simultaneously. So files created in either a UNIX / Linux / ESX environment can be seen via a Windows host and vice versa. This is hugely useful for things in a VMware environment like administering ISO stores.

4. Now we create ISO store for VMware. For this purpose create ISO images folder in the opened folder. Right click on empty space, select New -> Folder.

5. Enter ISO images and press enter.

6. Open C:\ISO folder and copy ISO file to Z:\ISO images\.

7. Close opened ISO folders. Double click on the VMware vSphere Client icon.

8. On the login screen enter localhost and put tick Use windows credentials. Press Login.

9. On the vCenter main screen select ESXi server tampere.finland.world. On the right select Configuration tab. On the tab click on Storage under Hardware section.

10. Right click on Demo_NFS data store and select Browse datastore...

11. In the Datastore Browser window select ISO images folder. Here you can see copied ISO image. So it can be easily used in the ESX environment.

CIFs share management1. Windows tools can be used to manage CIFs shares. Some administrators will be more comfortable with these tools so start computer management. Close or minimize all opened windows and double click on the Computer Management icon.

2. Right click on the root of the tree and choose connect to another computer.

3. Type in Celerra and press OK.

4. Expand the System Tools -> Shared Folders and click on Shares to show the share that was created. Right click Shares to create new share wizard.

5. On the Welcome screen press Next.

6. On the Folder Path screen click Browse.

7. On the Browse For Folder screen select Demo_FS folder and press Make New Folder button.

8. Enter Test as folder name and press Enter key. Select folder Test and press OK.

9. Press Next.

10. On the Name, Description and Settings screen press Next.

11. On the Shared Folder Permissions screen select second option and press Finish.

12. On the Result screen press Finish again.

13. Right click on the created Test share and select Properties.

14. On the Test properties window select Share Permissions and Security tabs to show that permissions and security are the same as any windows file share. This reassures the people new to EMC that shares can be managed as they were before.

15. Close Test Properties and Computer management windows.Checkpoints

1. Double click Network icon on the desktop.

2. Open Celerra server.

3. Open created Test share.

4. Create a couple of dummy folders for use with checkpoints. For example create Test1, Test2 and Test3.

5. Switch to Unisphere window. Move mouse over Replicas tab and select Checkpoints.

6. Press Create checkpoint at the bottom to show VSS integration. Explain how writeable checkpoints work and how the administrator can choose the overhead for the checkpoint file system, every checkpoint is a separate file system.

7. Select Demo_FS as Production file system, fill in Checkpoint Name field with the test value and select clar_r5_perofrmance. Leave all other parameters with default value. Press OK.

8. Once the checkpoint is created, minimize Unisphere window. Switch to the Test share on Celerra. Delete Test2 and Test3 folders to simulate corruption of a file system.

9. Go back to the root of Celerra, right click on the Test share and select Restore previous versions.

10. Select your checkpoint which you whant to restore and press the button Restore at the bottom.

11. At the Previous Versions window press Restore again.

12. Press OK on the following information screen.

13. Open Test share again to check that all folders restored successfully.14. Switch to Unisphere window. Go to the Schedules tab under checkpoints and press Create at the bottom to new schedule.

15. Show how the administrator can create daily, weekly or monthly schedules by simply checking boxes. Office worker schedules for Monday-Friday only can be created which is very useful for many organizations. Up to 96 checkpoints per file system means weeks of historical checkpoint data can be restored by individual users with a couple of clicks.

Data Migration

1. Move mouse over the Storage tab and select Data Migration.

2. Now we should create file system for data migration. Select File Systems tab and click Create.

3. Fill in all necessary fields in the form with the following information: Migration File System Name: - Migrated; Storage Pool: - clar_r5_economy; Storage capacity (MB): - 1024. Press OK.

NOTE: Several different shares can be migrated to the same file system on Celerra.

4. Now , once the file system for migration is created, we can create migration. Select Migrations tab and click Create.

NOTE: Explain each of the fields. In particular, describe how existing file servers can be recreated as software based servers in the Celerra, existing share names can be used to export the share. By doing this, the migration process is simple. Users dont need to remap to a new share.

7. Press OK to start migration.

8. During the migration you can see status Running in the Migration State field.

9. Wait until completion of migration process.

10. Once youve complete with migration, your file system can be shared or easily converted to production file system.
