Martha had three sons,Mike, Matt, and Max. Forher upcoming milestonebirthday, Mike bought hismom a big house in which
to live. Matt bought hismom a fancy car. Max,seeking to be creative, thought about his momslove of reading the Bible,so he traveled around theworld to find a talkingparrot that memorized thewhole Bible. The parrotwas so trained that all hismom would have to do isname the chapter in the
Bible, then the parrotwould do all the work.
On her birthday, Marthasaid, Mike, Im an oldlady. Thank you, but Idont need a big house andwill have a difficult timetaking care of it. Matt,Im an old lady. Thankyou, but I wont be drivingmuch at all. Max my
dear, thank you for thespecial chicken. It wasdelicious!Yes, it is an old joke, butit can serve as food for
thought. Do we realizeand recognize the gifts wehave from God? Jameswrote, Every good thinggiven and every perfectgift is from above, comingdown from the Father oflights. We can make along list of gifts from God:faith, music, creation, love, prayer, family, theHoly Spirit, and remem-
brance, just to name avery few.
At times, maybe wetake gifts from God forgranted. Do we recognizeand express our gratitudefor Gods gifts? A youngman was given a diction-ary for his birthday.Asked if he liked it heresponded, Its a great
gift, but I just cant findthe words to thank youenough. We cannotexpress enough gratitudefor the gifts God gives
and yet we can expressgratitude anytime theycome to mind.
Moving forward fromthe season of Easter, having celebrated thegifts of salvation and newlife brought by the deathand resurrection ofJesus, let us focus onseveral more of Godsgifts to us: faith, music,
creation, love, prayer, family, the Holy Spirit andremembrance. Thesegifts are blessings for ourlife and can be sharedblessings as we live outthe Christian life. Withthe many gifts from ourgracious God, let usalways give joyful witnessto the Giver.
