Why might this information be important?

Gives the readers the information about the drawing/planning. Easier for the readers to look for which page they want to read

2 DRAWING CONTENT - PLANS

- What type of information is shown in this floor plan?

The floor plan gives information about the materials used, dimensions, structure, the location of the building, references of other pages and detailed palnning.

- Provide an example of the dimensions as they appear on this floor plan? What units are used for the dimensions?

960 means the width of the door, the units is millimetres (mm)

- Is there a grid? What system is used for identifying the grid lines?

Yes, There are letters representing the column grid lines and numbers represents the horizontal ones.

- Why is some information found in General Notes?

General notes are provided so that the same thing is no need to be repeated in each page.

- What is the purpose of the legend?

Understanding the structure of the materials and drawing in general.

- Why are some parts of the drawing annotated? Illustrate how the annotations are associated with the relevant part of the drawing.

Some parts of the drawing are annotated because it helps the reader to find the details of the plan

- Illustrate how the locations of sections are identified on the plan. What do these symbols mean?

Sections are for leading readers to other pages for further information. The sections were shown as:

- Illustrate how references to other drawings are shown on the plan. What do these symbols mean?

Sections were used for referencing to other drawings.

- How are windows and doors identified? Provide and example of each. Is there a rationale to their numbering? What do these numbers mean? Can you find the answer somewhere in the drawings?

They are identified by certain symbols.

Yes, rational to their numbering means different locations. The number of the door and windows are going from right to the left and up to down.

- Illustrate how floor levels are noted on the plan?

The floor levels are noted by letters such as ‘FFL’ represents finished floor level

- Are some areas of the drawing clouded? Why?

No, there are not in the plan of the Queens College

- What type of information is shown in this elevation? How does it differ from the information shown on the plan?

Height and materials are shown in this elevation. Height is not shown on the plan.

- Are dimensions shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the plan? Provide an example of the dimensions as they relate to the elevation.

Yes, they are similar except for the height of the walls.

- What types of levels are shown on the elevations? Illustrate how levels are shown in relation to the elevation.

FFL are shown on the elevations. ‘FFL” means finished floor level.

- Is there a grid? If so, how / where is it shown?

Yes, the grid lines are similar with those shown on the plan. However, there are only columns represented by the letters.

- Is there a legend? What does it identify and how is it used?

No, there is no legend.

- What types of information on the elevations are expressed using words? Illustrate how this is done.

The details of the materials are expressed using words, for example, ‘precast concrete panels‘ written on it.

- Illustrate how the doors and windows are identified on the elevations.

The doors and the windows are drew in detailed for. There shape and appearance are shown. Not only a simple symbol.

- Are any parts of the elevation clouded? Why?

Yes, because there is something that need to be changed and to make sure the readers notice that.

- Illustrate where this elevation is located in relation to the plan?

The grid lines reference it. Same letters or numbers means the same location.

4 DRAWING CONTENT – SECTIONS

- What type of information is shown in this section? How does it differ from the information shown on the plan and elevation?

The section shows the interior details, dimensions, materials, internal elevation and some structure of footing.

- Are dimensions shown? If so, how do they differ from the dimensions on the elevation?

Yes, dimensions are shown. The dimensions on the section are the dimensions of the materials and the walls. The dimensions shown on the elevation are the dimensions of the building such as height.

- What types of information on the sections are expressed using words? Illustrate how this is done.

Materials and the existing structures on the sections are expressed using words.

- Illustrate how the section drawing differentiates between building elements that are cut through and those that are shown in elevation (beyond).

Thicker lines represent those which are close to you and the thinner ones are more far away.

- Provide examples of how different materials are shown on the sections.

Different materials use different drawings. Annotations and textures are also used.

- Find where this section is located on the plans.

5 DRAWING CONTENT – DETAILS

- What sorts of things are detailed?

The piping/joists, framing, roofing, location, engineer drawing, slabs, footing and deck are detailed.

- Are the details compressed using break lines? Why?

Yes, to avoid using more space than necessarily.

- Provide examples of how different materials are shown on drawings at this scale.

- Find the locations of these details on the plans, elevations and sections.
