College Hills Baptist Church Volume 4, Issue 14 April 09, 2014 Focus on the Cross Sunday We will revisit this Sunday, April 13, the haunting yet beautiful last few hours of the Lord Jesus' life on this earth and rediscover the wonder of our justification. Haunting because the sovereign, omnipotent Creator God submitted Himself to the kind of hu- miliation and suffering that He went through. Beautiful because every drop of blood that He shed oozed with His grace, His mercy and His love for us. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteous- ness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) Then, as we prepare for Easter, the most important celebration in the Christian cal- endar, we will have a Week of Prayer and Fasting for Repentance and Holy Living, Monday-Friday, April 14-18. The sanctuary will be open for prayer every day from noon until 1:30. On Good Friday, the schedule will be as follows: 11:30 Prayer of praise and worship of the Holy God 11:45 Prayer of confession and repentance 12:00 Prayer of thanksgiving for God's forgiveness 12:15 Prayer for lost family and friends and boldness to share Christ with them; make a list of unchurched friends God wants you to invite to our Easter service 12:30 Prayer for Christ to be honored and proclaimed during our Easter service 12:45 Testimonies – a time of sharing what God has been showing us during the last two weeks; and Lord's Supper Ask the Lord whether He wants you to fast for a day or several days. Use the guide- lines we handed last Sunday as a guide. Keep in mind that fasting is abstaining from physical food for a spiritual goal or purpose. We are not trying to twist God's arm. We are asking Him to enlarge our hearts to make more room for His will, His purpose, and His joy in our lives. Will you join me in praying and fasting during that time for repentance and for a walk of holiness so that our lives truly reflect the beauty and grace of King Jesus? Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in dark- ness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus also told His disciples then, and He tells us now, “You are the light of the world... let your light shine before oth- ers, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14, 16). Focus on the Cross Sunday

We will revisit this Sunday, April 13, the haunting yet beautiful last few hours of the Lord Jesus' life on this earth and rediscover the wonder of our justification. Haunting

because the sovereign, omnipotent Creator God submitted Himself to the kind of hu-miliation and suffering that He went through. Beautiful because every drop of blood

that He shed oozed with His grace, His mercy and His love for us. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteous-

ness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Then, as we prepare for Easter, the most important celebration in the Christian cal-

endar, we will have a Week of Prayer and Fasting for Repentance and Holy Living, Monday-Friday, April 14-18. The sanctuary will be open for prayer every

day from noon until 1:30. On Good Friday, the schedule will be as follows: 11:30 Prayer of praise and worship of the Holy God

11:45 Prayer of confession and repentance

12:00 Prayer of thanksgiving for God's forgiveness 12:15 Prayer for lost family and friends and boldness to share

Christ with them; make a list of unchurched friends God wants you to invite to our Easter service

12:30 Prayer for Christ to be honored and proclaimed during our Easter service

12:45 Testimonies – a time of sharing what God has been showing us during the last two weeks; and Lord's Supper

Ask the Lord whether He wants you to fast for a day or several days. Use the guide-lines we handed last Sunday as a guide. Keep in mind that fasting is abstaining

from physical food for a spiritual goal or purpose. We are not trying to twist God's arm. We are asking Him to enlarge our hearts to make more room for His will, His

purpose, and His joy in our lives.

Will you join me in praying and fasting during that time for repentance and for a

walk of holiness so that our lives truly reflect the beauty and grace of King Jesus?Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in dark-

ness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus also told His disciples then, and He tells us now, “You are the light of the world... let your light shine before oth-

ers, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14, 16).
