Click here to access the Trail Calendar for a list of approved rides. Happy Trails! ApHC REGISTRATION CORNER THANK YOU STALLION OWNERS! We would like to extend a BIG thank you to all the ApHC and approved breed stallion owners, who submitted Stallion Breeding Reports this year! It appears that the number of stallions breeding, as well as the number of mares bred are increased slightly from last year. We really appreciate those ApHC stallion owners who took advantage of the on-line reporting. We have received great reviews about it – let us know how it worked for you. We look forward to registering all those darling foals! DNA IS REQUIRED Deoxyribonucleic acid, better known as DNA, is the funda- mental building block for a horse’s entire genetic makeup. It is a component of every cell and DNA is the same in every cell, for example hair, blood, semen, saliva and skin. Your Appaloosa’s DNA is different from any other horse’s, with the exception of identical twins. DNA profiling establishes the unique genetic identity of an Appaloosa. Profiling is valuable to the ApHC as it can be used for inclusion in future parentage verification studies, or for proving ownership of an Appaloosa that has been recovered. At this point, with very little exception, all breeding stallions and mares must have a DNA profile on file with the ApHC prior to registration of an ApHC-eligible foal. The ApHC suggests you pull approximately 50 hairs from every potential breeding animal you own. Make sure the root of the hair is visible. It can be stored in a paper envelope (do not store it in plastic) and filed with the horse’s Certificate of Registration for use when and if necessary. DNA profiling does not automatically parentage verify an Appaloosa. To parentage verify an Appaloosa, the ApHC requires a DNA type on the sire, dam and offspring. Current- ly, when a DNA profile is submitted to the ApHC, a parentage verification is automatically completed if the DNA types of the sire and dam are available. For further information regarding the differences between DNA profiles and DNA Parentage Verifications, or to verify if your Appaloosa has DNA on file, or has been parentage verified, please contact the ApHC at 208.882.5578 ext. 300. DNA requirements and DNA kit order forms are available at www.appaloosa.com. FREE CORRECTIONS! We encourage everyone to review their Certificates of Regis- tration as soon as they are received. Is there an inaccuracy? We will correct your horse’s certificate free of charge! Free is always good! As long as the inaccuracy is not a result of incorrect information supplied to the ApHC, simply return the certificate within 30 days of the date issued (date will be noted on the bottom right-hand of the certificate) and don’t forget to include proper documentation for the correction, including photographs. If you notice the inaccuracy after 30 days from the issuance of the certificate, a nominal $20 correction fee applies. When completing the Application for Registration, it be- hooves Appaloosa owners to not only send quality photo- graphs of their horse, depicting all markings, but also to properly complete the description portion of the application. An inside heel may not be visible in submitted photographs because he horse is standing in grass, or a small star may be obscured by the forelock. When owners draw their horse’s white markings on applications they are far less likely to be overlooked. While Appaloosa registration can be a complicated business, free corrections are easy! As always, if you have questions don’t hesitate to contact us at 208.882.5578 ext. 300. We’ll be happy to assist you! We are proud to introduce new corporate partner and official feed of ApHC... ApHC REGISTRATION CORNER

THANK YOU STALLION OWNERS!We would like to extend a BIG thank you to all the ApHC andapproved breed stallion owners, who submitted StallionBreeding Reports this year! It appears that the number ofstallions breeding, as well as the number of mares bred areincreased slightly from last year. We really appreciate thoseApHC stallion owners who took advantage of the on-linereporting. We have received great reviews about it – let usknow how it worked for you. We look forward to registeringall those darling foals!

DNA IS REQUIREDDeoxyribonucleic acid, better known as DNA, is the funda-mental building block for a horse’s entire genetic makeup. Itis a component of every cell and DNA is the same in everycell, for example hair, blood, semen, saliva and skin. YourAppaloosa’s DNA is different from any other horse’s, withthe exception of identical twins.DNA profiling establishes the unique genetic identity of anAppaloosa. Profiling is valuable to the ApHC as it can be usedfor inclusion in future parentage verification studies, or forproving ownership of an Appaloosa that has been recovered. At this point, with very little exception, all breeding stallionsand mares must have a DNA profile on file with the ApHCprior to registration of an ApHC-eligible foal. The ApHCsuggests you pull approximately 50 hairs from every potentialbreeding animal you own. Make sure the root of the hair isvisible. It can be stored in a paper envelope (do not store it inplastic) and filed with the horse’s Certificate of Registrationfor use when and if necessary.DNA profiling does not automatically parentage verify anAppaloosa. To parentage verify an Appaloosa, the ApHCrequires a DNA type on the sire, dam and offspring. Current-ly, when a DNA profile is submitted to the ApHC, a parentageverification is automatically completed if the DNA types ofthe sire and dam are available. For further information regarding the differences betweenDNA profiles and DNA Parentage Verifications, or to verifyif your Appaloosa has DNA on file, or has been parentageverified, please contact the ApHC at 208.882.5578 ext. 300.DNA requirements and DNA kit order forms are available atwww.appaloosa.com.

FREE CORRECTIONS!We encourage everyone to review their Certificates of Regis-tration as soon as they are received. Is there an inaccuracy? We will correct your horse’s certificate free of charge! Free isalways good! As long as the inaccuracy is not a result ofincorrect information supplied to the ApHC, simply return thecertificate within 30 days of the date issued (date will be notedon the bottom right-hand of the certificate) and don’t forget toinclude proper documentation for the correction, includingphotographs. If you notice the inaccuracy after 30 days fromthe issuance of the certificate, a nominal $20 correction feeapplies. When completing the Application for Registration, it be-hooves Appaloosa owners to not only send quality photo-graphs of their horse, depicting all markings, but also toproperly complete the description portion of the application. An inside heel may not be visible in submitted photographsbecause he horse is standing in grass, or a small star may beobscured by the forelock. When owners draw their horse’swhite markings on applications they are far less likely to beoverlooked. While Appaloosa registration can be a complicated business, free corrections are easy! As always, if you have questionsdon’t hesitate to contact us at 208.882.5578 ext. 300. We’ll behappy to assist you!
