PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners and Friends: On Sunday, we became aware of a nightmare. Another act of hate in a place no one expected it, a man with a gun in his hands and evil in his heart apparently consumed with rage against LGBT Americans - and, by extension, against the openness and diversity that define our way of life. No matter how often we endure attacks like this the horror never fades. The murder of innocent people always breaks our hearts, tears at our sense of security and makes us furious. So many of us are praying for everyone who was killed, for the wounded and for all the loved ones grieving today. Bur we owe their memories and their families more than a prayer. We must also take decisive action to strengthen our international alliances and combat such acts, to keep weapons of war off our streets, and to affirm the rights of LGBT Americans - and all Americans - to feel welcome and safe in our country. This is what we absolutely cannot do: We cannot demonize Muslim people. We’re a big-hearted, fair-minded country. We teach our children that this is one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all - no matter one’s race or religion, language or sexual orientation, age or ability. Thank you for standing together in love, kindness and the best of what it means to be an American. A word of congratulations to the fathers of our parish on this Father’s Day. We remember in all the Masses this day all our fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, godfathers living and deceased. On Friday, June 24, we celebrate the Feast of St. John the Baptist, the great prophet and herald of Jesus the Messiah. He prepared the way of the Lord and revealed Jesus to others as both Messiah and the Lamb of God. St. John exemplifies the Christian life as one who proclaims the Gospel message of healing and repentance while he points out Christ to others and shows them the way to become united with God. In this Year of Mercy, pray for peace, a peace which in these times seems so illusive. Fr. Duffell

The flowers that beautifully adorn the sanctuary have been offered

in memory of the victims taken in that horrible act of terror and hate which took place in Orlando, FL.

Padre Duffell.

Finance Committee Corner Last Sunday $6,927 was received in the offertory

baskets at Mass and $3,389 was received through Parish Pay, for a total of $10,316. However, the weekly

operating costs to run our parish, such as salaries, benefits, utilities, office and program expenses, etc., are

approximately $20,000. This means we had an operating deficit of $9,684 this week.

Our second collection in support of our Soup Kitchen totaled $2,171.00. Thank you.

Please try to increase your weekly gifts so that we can eliminate our operating deficit. And please consider

signing up for Parish Pay There is no cost to participate in the program. You may log onto www.parishpay.com or

call 1866-727-4741 ext.1 to sign up.

The Body-Subject: Workshops for Women

The Body-Subject is a workshop for women who wish to foster

compassion toward self and body. Sadly, we live in a society saturated with messages that we must have a ‘perfect’ body. And sadly, summer time can make us feel even more lacking and unacceptable. The Body-Subject therefore invites women to come together to think about how our culture shapes our experience and how we might gently pave the

way for a kinder, non-judgmental relationship with ourselves.

Approved by the Women’s Therapy Center Institute (WTCI) and Endangered Bodies New York, the Body-Subject is a psycho-

educational workshop facilitated by Alison Afra PhD. Activities include thinking deeply about how the media affect us, enhancing

awareness of the mind-body connection, personal reflections, sharing stories if desired, bodily meditations, yoga, and more.

Days and times will be decided once enough participants have

registered an interest but we aim to run the workshops over the months of June and July. They will take place in the rectory. Individuals are welcome to decide how much they want to / are able to donate. All

proceeds go toward the work of Church of the Blessed Sacrament. For further details or to register, contact [email protected] / 917-375-

4418. The Body-Subject is open to women from all walks of life.

Today is Father’s Day. Many fathers provide us with the answer to that last question. Yes! They sacrifice themselves out of love. They endure difficulties and do their best to overcome them. They give selflessly, and they teach the rest of us how to do the same. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and those who are like a father to us! Thank you and may you be abundantly blessed.
