    What is Stucco ?

Traditional stucco consists of portland cement-based materialsand sand, mixed with water to form a workable plaster. Portlandcement plaster is applied either by hand or machine to exteriorand interior wall surfaces in two or three coats.

Stucco, or portland cement plaster, is a versatile facing material

that can be applied to flat or curved surfaces either inside or

outside any building or structure.Stucco has been used for more than a century as a surface finish

because of its utility, low first cost, and minimum need for

    maintenance.

Historical Backgroundthe concept of using cement mixtures in Indian architecture

goes back to ancient times. Wall frescoes & various murals were

made up using paint & fine - grained stucco.

UsesStucco is used for facing in a wide variety of commercial and

residential structures. It may be applied directly to a solid base

such as masonry or concrete walls, or it can be applied to a metallath attached to frame construction, solid masonry, or concrete

    construction.

Repairing Damaged Stuccostucco is inherently not a particularly permanent or long-lasting

building material. Regular maintenance is required to keep it in

good condition.Earlier, building owners employed a variety of means to prolong

its usefulness. The most common treatment was to whitewash

stucco. The lime in the whitewash offered protection and stability

and helped to harden the stucco.

    Most importantly, it filled hairline

    cracks before they could develop

into larger cracks and let in

    moisture.

To improve water repellency, stucco buildings were also

    sometimes coated with paraffin,

another type of wax, or other

    stucco-like coatings, such as oil

    mastics.

Stucco PanelsNowadays, keeping in view the varying treatments on facades,

stucco Panels have also been made available.

These are available in varying lengths & sizes, but can also beorder made according to the requirement of the project.
